Area roundup: Cardinals tennis holds off Blue Earth

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals spring tennis team edged out the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers in a Big South Conference tennis match on Saturday. The match came down to the No. 2 doubles match, where Simone Castro and Lilly Ortega defeated Connor Hoerth and Eli Goshorn 6-2, 6-3, locking in the Fairmont victory 4-3.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Anthony Stegge fell to Ryder Dutton 6-3, 7-5, while Tyler Slama was defeated by Devin Haase 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 3 singles match Leo Fortin fell to Noah Hanson 6-3, 6-0, 10-4, while Zach Ashland fell to Mitchell Stevermer in the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-3.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Wylee Frederiksen and Jonah Vetter defeated David Bautista and Nolan Hagedorn 6-1, 6-1, while in the No. 3 doubles match, Leander Nelson and Hudson Clayton defeated Caleb Goshorn and Orion Bernal 6-2, 6-2.
The Cardinals next match is at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Redwood Valley.

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa – The North Union Warriors boys golf team placed second in a Top of Iowa Conference golf triangular at Eagle Grove Golf Course on Saturday. Drew Henderson placed second overall after shooting a 36 but dropping the tiebreaker.
Cole Nicoson shot a 47, while Caden Walders shot a 48. Caden Zotz shot a 52, while Carter Martens shot a 46 and Hudson Tirevold shot a 53.
The Warriors next meet is at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Brooks Golf Course.
