MCW rallies in 6th for win over Windom

WELCOME – The Martin County West Mavericks put up five runs in the sixth inning to claim an 11-10 win over Windom in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division softball game Thursday.
Maddie Carlson led the Mavericks, going 3 for 4 with five RBIs, while Courtney Anderson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Bailey Larson went 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Teya Schmidtke went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
In the circle for the Mavericks, Maddie Carlson struck out eight through seven innings.
In the Mavericks’ comeback, they led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk by Emily Schettler followed by Emily Anderson reaching on an error. Carlson then sent a fly ball to right field for a two-run triple to pull within a run. Carlson scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game, before a single by Larson brought in the winning run.
Windom threatened in the seventh with back-to-back walks and a double by Addisyn Powers, but the Mavericks got the lead runner out at the plate on a throw by Rowan Faber before a strikeout and groundout ended the game.
The Mavericks are now 5-1 host Cleveland for a 4:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
