FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals took down Pipestone in a Big South Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday, winning Game 1 by a score of 8-4, and Game 2 by a score of 5-4.

Leading the Cardinals was Brylee Miller, who went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, while Makayla Lowry went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Gwyneth Schultz went 1 for 4 with an RBI, while Gabriella Leiding went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Pitching for Fairmont was Miller who struck out six through seven innings.

In Game 2 leading the Cardinals was Ilana Moeller, who went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Miller went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Abigail Sundeen went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and pitching was Leiding, who secured the win pitching through 5 â…” with three strikeouts.

The Cardinals now 6-2 head to Redwood Valley for a 4 p.m. game on Thursday.

PREP BASEBALL

FAIRMONT 13, JACKSON COUNTY CENTRAL 4

JACKSON – The Fairmont Cardinals beat Jackson County Central 13-4 in a Big South Conference matchup Tuesday.

Leading the Cardinals was Josh Soelter, who went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs. Micah Vaughn went 1 for 1 with two RBIs and a run. Joe Long went 3 for 5 with one RBI and two runs. In five innings of work, Mason Bicknase gave up no runs, two hits, and had seven strikeouts. Fairmont (5-1) heads to Waseca Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game.

Fairmont wins in Worthington

WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont Cardinals secured a victory at the Worthington Triangular, where the boys scored 148 points and the girls scored 206 points.

Jase Meade of the Cardinals placed first in the boys pole vault, clearing 11 feet, while teammate Caleb Chambers took second, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches. Devin Hanson placed third, clearing 9 feet, while Axel Chapman tied for third, clearing 9 feet.

In the girls pole vault, Fairmont’s Ellie Perkins took first, clearing 11 feet, while BEA’s Tailor Douglas placed second, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.

In the boys shot put, Fairmont’s Oliver Tordsen took first place with a throw of 51 feet, 10.5 inches, while fellow Cardinal Hank Artz placed second with a throw of 49 feet, 11.5 inches. Chase Gambell of the Buccaneers placed third with a throw of 42 feet, 6.5 inches, while Fairmont’s Tyler Bicknase placed fourth with a throw of 41 feet, 8.5 inches.

Kennedy Becker of the Cardinals placed first in the girls shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 0.5 inches, while teammate Ellie Ortega took second with a throw of 34 feet, 11.5 inches. Taylor Ripley of BEA took third with a throw of 30 feet, 8.25 inches, while MCW’s Mylee Larson placed fourth with a throw of 29 feet, 11.25 inches.

In the boys discus, Fairmont’s Oliver Tordsen placed first with a throw of 168 feet, 7 inches, while teammate Hank Artz placed third with a throw of 115 feet, 11 inches. Also from the Cardinals was Benet Mathiason, who took fourth with a throw of 110 feet, 11 inches.

Ortega of the Cardinals placed first in the girls discus with a throw of 102 feet, 8 inches, while MCW’s Mylee Larson placed fourth with a throw of 86 feet, 6 inches.

In the boys high jump, Isaac Anderson of BEA took first, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches, while Cardinal Tytan Tumbleson placed second with a jump of 6 feet. BEA’s Branson Hauskins placed fourth with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches.

Jadyn Montgomery placed third in the girls high jump clearing 4 feet, 6 inches, while BEA’s Addison Smith placed fourth with a jump of 4 feet, 6 inches.

In the boys long jump, Fairmont’s Tumbleson placed first, clearing 19 feet, 11.75 inches, while teammate Ethan Pockrus took third, clearing 18 feet, 1.5 inches.

BEA’s Kyannah Brandt placed second in the girls long jump, clearing 14 feet, 0.5 inches, while Fairmont’s Meredith Nemmers placed fourth, clearing 13 feet.

Ethan Pockrus of Fairmont placed fourth in the boys triple jump, clearing 38 feet, 6.5 inches.

In the girls triple jump, Fairmont’s Abbie Simpson placed first, clearing 29 feet, 6.25 inches, while teammate Montgomery took second with a jump of 29 feet, 4.25 inches. BEA’s Sarah Dohm placed third, clearing 29 feet, 3.75 inches, while teammate Sidney Eitzmann took fourth with a jump of 28 feet, 3 inches.

In the boys 100-meter dash Jeremiah Lebbi of Fairmont placed second with a time of 11.54, while BEA’s Jacob Grandgenett finished third (11.74). Berent Kosbab of MCW placed fourth (11.76).

Fairmont’s Mollie Leiding finished first in the girls 100 with a time of 13.66, while Nathaliah Johnson of the Cardinals took second (13.66). MCW’s Ava Thate finished third (13.96), while Cardinal Emelia Klanderud took fourth (14.09).

MCW’s Berent Kosbab took second in the boys 200 running a 23.34, while Fairmont’s Caleb Chambers placed fourth (24.22).

In the girls 200 Fairmont’s Harper Artz placed first with a time of 26.71, while teammate Nathaliah Johnson finished second (27.49). Fellow Cardinal Mollie Leiding placed third (27.88).

In the wheelchair 200 Nelson Remington secured first with a time of 31.43.

Fairmont’s Nolan Schultze placed first in the boys 400 with a time of 51.79, while Jaydon Putney placed third with a time of 52.39.

In the girls 400 Harper Artz of Fairmont placed first with a time of 1:00.35, while Macy Hanson placed second (1:04.33). Addison Toothaker placed third (1:06.87), while Madi Thompson secured fourth (1:07.35).

Remington finished first in the wheelchair 400 with a time of 1:01.10.

Fairmont’s Brier Lenort placed second in the boys 800 with a time of 2:08.93.

In the girls 800, Ella Wubbena of Fairmont placed first running a 2:40.77.

Remington finished first in the wheelchair 800 with a time of 2:08.84.

In the boys 1,600, Fairmont’s Carter Hanson placed third, running a time of 4:45.35, while Devin Hanson placed fourth (4:55.39).

Abbie Simpson finished second in the girls 1,600 with a time of 5:57.16 for the Cardinals.

MCW’s Dominic Dietz placed fourth in the boys 3,200 with a time of 14:17.30.

Evelynn Christenson placed first in the girls 3,200 with a time of 13:15.35 for MCW, while Fairmont’s Delaney Klug placed third with a time of 14:36.83.

In the boys 110-meter hurdles, Dakota Wiley placed fourth with a time of 18.16 for Fairmont.

Cadence Leiding of the Cardinals placed first with a time of 17.18, while Bella Schroeder placed second (17.78). Nora Fitzgerald locked in third (18.21), while Lianna Weber placed fourth (19.30).

In the boys 300-meter hurdles Jaron Schutz of Fairmont placed second with a time of 44.21, while BEA’s Marcus Eckles placed fourth (45.72).

Fairmont’s Nora Fitzgerald placed first in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 50.12, while Cadence Leiding took second (50.80). Bella Schroeder of the Cardinals placed third (53.31).

In the boys 4×100 relay, the Fairmont team of Elijah Johnson, Schultze, Chambers, and Lebbi placed second with a time of 44.75, while the Cardinals team of Keyon Schutz, Jase Meade, Draden Beebe, and Ethan Siebring took third (48.12). MCW’s team of Lixon Forsberg, Kosbab, Mason Menssen, and Kane Wohlhuter took fourth (48.46).

Fairmont’s team of Toothaker, Fitzgerald, Ava Rodning, and Nemmers placed first in the girls 4×100 relay with a time of 53.99, while the MCW team of Thea Larson, Tayavia Maokamphio, Avery Sanders, and Thate placed third (57.72). The Cardinal team of Lianna Weber, Lauren Zarling, Vaedah Werner, and Nola Thedens placed fourth (58.67).

In the boys 4×200 relay the Fairmont team of Elijah Johnson, Putney, Wiley, and Lebbi placed first with a time of 1:35.81, while the BEA team of Gage Barker, Caden Juba, Jose Salinas, and Jacob Gradgenett took second (1:36.6).

The Fairmont team of Nathaliah Johson, Kennedy Becker, Mollie Leiding, and Harper Artz placed first in the girls 4×200 relay with a time of 1:48.43, while the other Fairmont team of Alexis Fuller, Montgomery, Avery Chambers, and Bella Schroeder placed second (1:56.92).

In the boys 4×400 relay the Fairmont team of Hogan Artz, Carter Hanson, Brier Lenort, and Jaydon Putney placed first with a time of 3:40.60, while the other Fairmont team of Cooper Gudahl, Seth Seibring, Carmyne Hecht, and Ethan Siebring placed fourth (3:59.30).

The Fairmont team of Ellie Perkins, Emelia Klanderud, Madi Thompson, and Ella Wubbena placed first in the girls 4×400 relay with a time of 4:32.27, while the other team of Fairmont of Kaydynce Weber, Olivia Wedel, Adylen Laven, and Avery Chambers placed second (4:46.02).

In the boys 4×800 relay the Fairmont team of Carter Hanson, Jordan Thompson, Cooper Gudahl, and Breir Lenort placed first with a time of 8:41.93.

The Fairmont team of Ella Wubbena, Delaney Klug, Avery Steuber, and Abbie Simpson placed second with a time of 11:29.33.

The Cardinals next head to Jordan for a 4 p.m. meet on Thursday.

PREP TENNIS

FAIRMONT 4, WORTHINGTON 3

WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont Cardinals spring tennis team defeated Worthington 4-3 in a Big South Conference matchup Tuesday.

The Cardinals were 3-1 in singles competition. Anthony Stegge beat Quin Mathis 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match, while Tyler Slama bested Kaw Blay 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles match. In the No. 3 singles match, Leo Fortin beat Daelen Sithad 6-1, 6-0. In doubles competition, Oliver Thedens and Wylee Frederiksen beat Moises Segura and Xander Barber 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match.

Fairmont’s next matchup will be at home against Spirit Lake and Blue Earth Area in a Tri Saturday at 10 a.m.

BOYS GOLF

NORTH UNION 162, WEST HANCOCK 168, EAGLE GROVE 180

BRITT – The North Union Warriors beat West Hancock and Eagle Grove 162-168-180 in a Top of Iowa conference West section matchup Tuesday.

Drew Henderson finished first individually with a 34. Caden Walders finished third overall with a 39.

North Union’s next matchup is Friday against Lake Mills and Eagle Grove at Eagle Grove Golf Course starting at 4:15 p.m.

GIRLS GOLF

EAGLE GROVE 202, NORTH UNION 277, WEST HANCOCK 303

BRITT – The North Union Warriors finished second between Eagle Grove and West Hancock 202-277-303 in a Top of Iowa conference West section matchup Tuesday.

Hannah Nielsen was the highest individual finisher, tying for fifth with a 55.

North Union’s next matchup is Friday against Lake Mills and Eagle Grove at Eagle Grove Golf Course starting at 4:15 p.m.
