MOUNTAIN LAKE – The Martin County West Mavericks put on a dominant showing in a nonconference softball game against Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey, winning 15-2 and moving to 5-1 for the season.
Leading the Mavericks was Courtney Anderson, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Maddie Carlson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Emily Anderson went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Rowan Faber went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, while Tyler Poppe went 1 for 1 with two RBIs. Pitching for the Mavericks was Maddie Carlson, who through five innings gave up five hits while striking out 6.
The Mavericks host Windom for a 4:30 p.m. game on Thursday.
JCC 4, FAIRMONT 1
JACKSON – The Fairmont Cardinals fell to Jackson County Central 4-1 Monday night in a Big South Conference softball game.
Leading the Cardinals was Gwyneth Schultz who went 1 for 3 with an RBI, while pitcher Brylee Miller struck out eight batters through six innings.
The Cardinals (4-2) host Pipestone at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
GIRLS GOLF
SHERBURN – The Martin County West Mavericks finished fifth at Fox Lake Golf Course in the first leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference golf tournament, shooting a 515, while the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars finished fourth shooting a 511. Sleepy Eye United ultimately won the meet, shooting a 400.
Leading the Mavericks was Brenna Heifner who shot a 118 for 15th, while Ariel Freeman finished 19th after shooting a 127. Clare Paulson and Aaliyah Bolstad tied for 29th after shooting a 135.
Leading the Jaguars was Charlotte Berhow who shot a 117 for 14th place, while Elsa Thompson placed 17th after shooting a 121.
The Mavericks take on Granda-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Rose Lake Golf Course
WINDOM – The Fairmont Cardinals girls golf team placed second at the Big South Conference Gold Division Meet #1 on Monday after shooting a 201. Blue Earth Area ultimately won the meet, shooting a 192.
Leading the Cardinals was Katherine Zelaya and Leslie Zarling who tied for third shooting a 48, while Carly Gustafson finished sixth shooting a 49. Joslyn Meyer finished 13th with a score of 49, while Olive Kawecki placed 26th shooting a 65.
Fairmont heads to New Prague Golf Club on Friday for a 1 p.m. meet.
BOYS GOLF
SHERBURN – The Martin County West Mavericks finished eighth at Fox Lake Golf Course in the first leg of the Tomahawk-Valley Conference golf tournament after shooting a 383, while Sleepy Eye United took the victory by shooting a 322 on Monday and the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars placed second shooting a 337.
Leading the Jaguars was Gavin Kester who shot a 76 for third place, while Landon Zimmer shot an 81 for ninth place. Jevin Garry shot an 87 for 17th place, while Logan Zimmer shot a 93 for 21st place.
Leading the Mavericks was Knox Larson who shot an 80 to place second, while Kale Larson finished 16th after shooting an 87. Carson Scheff placed 41st shooting a 104, while Isaak Engstrom finished 50th after shooting a 112.
The Mavericks take on Granda-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Rose Lake Golf Course.
