Fairmont track solid in home opener

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals boys track and field team locked in first place with a score of 102.5, defeating St. Peter (61.5) and New Ulm (22), while the girls finished second, falling to St. Peter, who had a score of 84. Fairmont (79) locked in a second over New Ulm (24) in the Fairmont Triangular Monday night.
“Individually, certainly a lot of kids are making big strides in just about every event,” said Fairmont head coach Jesse Walters. “Then as a team …I’m happy with where we’re at and definitely think we are heading in the right direction and improving.”
The weather wasn’t a significant factor in the Cardinals’ first home meet of the season. Despite the rain and wind, Fairmont had a solid outing.
“As far as competing against other teams, you’re all competing in the same weather,” said Walters. “So that’s not a big factor, but in a sport where you’re measuring your success on time, it can have a pretty big effect.”
Jeremiah Lebbi took first in the boys 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.44.
In the girls 100-meter, Fairmont’s Nathaliah Johnson locked in a third-place finish with a time of 14.15
Nolan Schultze finished first in the boys 200-meter with a time of 24.06, while Lebbi took third with a time of 24.48. Caleb Chambers placed fourth after running a 24.67.
In the girls 200-meter, Harper Artz finished first with a time of 27.88.
Hogan Artz took first place in the boys 400-meter with a time of 55.71, while teammate Jordan Thompson took second running a 56.43, and Noah Wolner locked in a fourth-place finish posting a time of 1:02.47.
In the girls 400-meter, Harper Artz finished second after running a 1:04.80, while Addison Toothaker finished fourth, posting a time of 1:09.6.
In the boys 800-meter race Jaydon Putney finished first with a time of 2:09.64, while Brier Lenort placed second after running a 2:12.90, and Devin Hanson placed third with a time of 2:19.17.
Fairmont’s Makenzie Gerhardt took first in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:47.59.
Carter Hanson placed first in the boys 1600-meter race with a time of 5:04.72.
Kendra Blomster ran a 15:01.67 in the girls 3200-meter to take second place, while Delaney Klug placed third with a time of 15:09.47.
Jaron Schutz took first place in the boys 110-meter hurdles after posting a time of 17.39, while Ethan Pockrus finished third with a time of 18.91.
In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Cadence Leiding finished second with a time of 17.51, while Bella Schroeder finished third with a time of 17.83.
Dakota Wiley locked in a second-place finish in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.16, while Jaron Schutz took fourth with a time of 46.20.
Cadence Leiding finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.98, while Nora Fitzgerald finished third after running a 53.01 and Bella Schroeder took fourth with a time of 54.05.
The Fairmont team of Elijah Johnson, Nolan Schlutze, Caleb Chambers, and Jeremiah Lebbi took first place in the boys 4×100 relay with a time of 44.87.
In the girls 4×100 relay, Nathaliah Johnson, Emelia Klanderud, Ava Rodning, and Meredith Nemmers placed first with a time of 55.08.
The team of Dakota Wiley, Caleb Chambers, Jaydon Putney, and Nolan Schultze took first place in the 4×200 boys relay. with a time of 1:34.61.
In the girls 4×200 relay the team of Nathaliah Johnson, Emelia Klanderud, Addison Toothaker, and Harper Artz finished second with a time of 1:53.57, while the team of Adylen Laven, Nora Fitzgerald, Bella Schroeder, and Cadence Leiding finished third with a time of 2:00.57.
Fairmont’s team of Hogan Artz, Dakota Wiley, Brier Lenort, and Jaydon Putney placed first in the boys 4×400 relay with a time of 3:36.87, while Jordan Thompson, Carter Hanson, Ethan Siebring, and Seth Siebring finished third with a time of 3:52.51.
Ellie Perkins, Abbie Simpson, Ella Wubbena, and Macy Hanson placed first in the girls 4×400 relay with a time of 4:27.19, while Olivia Wedel, Audrina Suckow, Avery Chambers, and Makenzie Gerhardt took fourth with a time of 4:49.68.
The team of Jordan Thompson, Cooper Gudahl, Brier Lenort, and Carter Hanson took the victory in the 4×800 boys relay with a time of 8:54.01.
In the girls 4×800 relay, Fairmont’s Abbie Simpson, Mackenzie Gerhardt, Kendra Blomster, and Ella Wubbena finished first with a time of 11:00.93.
Fairmont’s Marcus Gamboa, Jacob Ehlert, Wyatt McGowan, and Caine Gronewold placed first in the boys 4×100 throwers relay with a time of 52.22.
“We have quite a few throwers out this year, especially specifically on the boys side,” said Walters. “They like to run four-by-ones every now and then for fun. so we decided to put it at the end of the meet after the four-by-fours when just about every event’s done so that they can kind of get the feeling of running under the lights. So we let them use whatever they want for batons and it’s pretty fun event.”
Oliver Tordsen finished third in the boys discus with a throw of 140 feet, 5 inches, while Hank Artz placed fourth with a throw of 130 feet, 3 inches.
Ellie Ortega finished first in the girls discus with a throw of 95 feet, 6 inches, while Addison Folkerts finished fourth with a throw of 71 feet, 5 inches.
In the boys shot put, Tordsen finished second with a throw of 52 feet, 1 inch, while Hank Artz finished third with a throw of 48 feet, 11 inches.
In the girls shot put Ellie Ortega locked in first place with a throw of 33 feet, 4 inches, while Kennedy Becker placed second with a throw of 31 feet, 9 inches. Fairmont’s Addison Folkerts placed fourth with a throw of 27 feet, 10 inches.
Tytan Tumbleson cleared 6 feet in the boys high jump to take first place, while Cooper Gudahl placed third with a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches.
In the girls high jump Jadyn Montgomery placed second with a jump of 4 feet, 6 inches, while Nola Thedens cleared 4 feet, 6 inches for third place, and Emelia Klanderud finished fourth with a jump of 4 feet, 4 inches.
Tytan Tumbleson placed first in the boys long jump, clearing 18 feet, 11.5 inches, while Ethan Pockrus placed third with a jump of 17 feet, 9 inches.
Abbie Simpson placed third in the girls long jump, clearing 14 feet, 1 inch.
Ellie Ortega took first in the girls pole vault clearing 10 feet, 6 inches.
Fairmont’s Jase Meade placed second in the boys pole vault clearing 11 feet, while Devin Hanson took fourth with a vault of 8 feet, 6 inches.
Tytan Tumbleson cleared 37 feet, 10.25 inches in the boys triple jump to take first place, while Ethan Pockrus jumped 36 feet, 3.5 inches for second place, and Cooper Gudahl placed fourth with a jump of 33 feet, 5 inches.
In the boys 400-meter wheelchair, Nelson Remington brought home the win with a time of 1:02.04. Remington also placed first in the 800-meter wheelchair with a time of 2:13.20.
The Cardinals next meet is at 4:30 p.m. in Waseca on Thursday.
