ST. PETER 5, FAIRMONT 2

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals spring tennis team fell to St. Peter Monday 5-2 in a Big South Conference tennis match.

Anthony Stegge fell to Ezekiel Ribar 6-2, 6-1 in his No. 1 singles match, while Tyler Slama defeated Ashton Baker in the No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-2. Leonardo Fortin won the No. 3 singles match, defeating Jaxon Schaefer 6-1, 1-6, 7-5, while Oliver Thedens fell to Brayden Kothenbergan in the No. 4 singles match 7-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Dominick Lund-May and Wylee Frederiksen fell to Quinn Dixon and Eli Stoll 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, while Zach Ashland and Simone Castro were defeated by Kaiser Hagen and Koy Flendrickson 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 doubles match. Lilly Ortega and Jonah Vetter fell to Levi Gilbertson and Jerry Soderlund 6-1, 6-2.

The Cardinals’ next match is Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Austin.

PREP BASEBALL

FAIRMONT 14, LUVERNE 3

LUVERNE – The Fairmont Cardinals defeated Luverne 14-3 in a Big South Conference baseball game Monday night.

Leading the Cardinals was Josh Soelter, who went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, while Joseph Hackett went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Joe Long went 3 for 4 with two RBIs’, while Mason Bicknase went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Pitching for the Cardinals was Noah Heckman, who took the win with two hits and three runs allowed, and Bicknase, who came on in relief and struck out three through 4 2/3 innings, giving up no runs or hits.

The Cardinals’ next game is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Blue Earth.
