Fairmont sets the bar in season opener

MANKATO – The Fairmont Cardinals varsity track and field boys and girls teams opened the season in dominant fashion Friday at Minnesota State University’s Myers Fieldhouse, earning 14 first-place finishes at the Old SCC Indoor Track Meet.

The Fairmont boys dominated the competition, securing first with a score of 163.67, defeating St. Peter (92.42), New Ulm (76.58), and St. James-Madelia (72.17), Blue Earth Area (31.17).

The Fairmont girls put up a score of 161 to take first, defeating St. Peter (120.5), St. James-Madelia (62), and New Ulm (53.83), BEA (47.67).

“Ellie Perkins tied the indoor school record for the pole vault, that’s 9 feet, 6 inches,” said Fairmont head coach Jesse Walters. “And Oliver Tordson tied the indoor school record in the shot put, that was 53 feet, 11 inches. So I suppose if you’re going to highlight a couple of things, those would certainly be at the top of the list. But yeah, really, I don’t think we had a bad event today and had a lot of kids compete really well and see a lot of really good performances.”

In the girls high jump, Fairmont’s Emelia Klanderud locked in a second-place finish, clearing 4 feet, 10 inches, while teammate Jadyn Montgomery took fifth by jumping 4 feet, 4 inches. Audrina Suckow came in 10th, clearing 4 feet.

The Cardinals came in third place in the 4X800 girls relay. The team consisting of Delaney Klug, Grace Simpson, Avery Steuber and Ella Wubbena posted a time of 12:07.

The Fairmont girls sprint medley relay team, which consisted of Montgomery, Bella Schroeder, Avery Chambers and Makenzie Gerhardt, finished third in the event with a time of 5:03.3.

Harper Artz had a first-place finish for Fairmont in the girls 400-meter race with a time of 101.6, while Addison Toothaker finished second with a time of 1:08.4. Emelia Klanderud took third posting a time of 109.9, while Ellie Perkins finished fourth with a time of 1:11.5.

Kendra Blomster finished eighth in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 6:52.7.

The Fairmont girls team of Nathaliah Johnson, Nora Fitzgerald, Kennedy Becker and Mollie Leiding took first in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:58.8.

Klug, Grace Simpson, Avery Steuber, and Ella Wubbena took third in the 4×800 with a time of 12:07.

In the medley, Fairmont’s Jadyn Montgomery, Bella Schroeder, Avery Chambers, and Makenzie Gerhardt took third with a time of 5:03.3.

In the 60-meter hurdles for Fairmont, Cadence Leiding took second, posting a time of 10.3, while Schroeder placed fourth with a time of 10.5.

Fairmont’s 4×400 girls team consisting of Avery Chambers, Ella Wubbena, Madi Thompson and Schroeder took first with a time of 4:35.5.

Nathaliah Johnson placed first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.4, while Harper Artz posted a time of 8.7 for fourth place. Meredith Nemmers and Ava Rodning tied for a 10th-place finish with a time of 9.1.

Ellie Ortega finished first in the shot put with a distance of 36 feet 8 inches, while Kennedy Becker took second with a distance of 34 feet. Addison Folkerts took eighth with a throw of 28 feet 0.5 inches, while Leamonie Wilson took 14th with a distance of 22 feet 10 inches. Mya Walters-Hinz locked in 20th with a throw of 20 feet 4 inches.

Meredith Nemmers placed eighth in the long jump, with a jump of 12 feet, 9.5 inches, while Alexis Fuller placed ninth, landing at 12 feet, 8 inches. Hannah Fischer cleared 11 feet, 5 inches for the Cardinals, placing 12th.

In the high jump, Emelia Klanderud finished second with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches, while Jadyn Montgomery finished fifth clearing 4 feet, 4 inches. Audrina Suckow locked in 10th with a jump of 4 feet.

Mollie Leiding cleared 28 feet, 7 inches to take second in the triple jump, while Jadyn Montgomery tied Leiding with the same distance. Lianna Weber cleared 28 feet, 3 inches for fifth place, while Annie Reyelts jumped 25 feet for 13th place.

Perkins took second in the pole vault with a vault of 9 feet, 6 inches, while Mollie Leiding cleared 6 feet, 6 inches for fifth place. Jadyn Montgomery took sixth with a vault of 6 feet.

In the boys 60-meter dash for Fairmont, Jeremiah Lebbi finished first with a time of 7.2 seconds, while Elijah Johnson took third with a time of 7.3. Nolan Schultze tied for third with Johnson also posting a 7.3, while Caleb Chambers finished seventh with a time of 7.5.

Jaron Schutz placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.6, while Ethan Pockrus took third with a time of 10.6.

Nelson Remington set a personal record of 11.7 seconds in the boys wheelchair 60-meter dash, which locked in a first-place finish. In the wheelchair 200 Remington finished with a time of 32.6, while finishing with a time of 1:03.9 in the wheelchair 400.

The Cardinals’ boys 4×800 relay team, consisting of Devin Hanson, Carter Hanson, Cooper Gudahl, and Brier Lenort, secured first place with a time of 9:04.8.

The Fairmont team of Elijah Johnson, Caleb Chambers, Jeremiah Lebbi, and Nolan Schultze secured first in the 4×200 relay with a time of 140.4

In the 400-meter race, Ethan Siebring placed third with a time of 1:01.4, while Keyon Schutz placed fourth with a time of 1:01.8. Jaron Schutz finished sixth with a time of 1:02.6, while Seth Siebring placed seventh with a time of 1:03.4.

In the 1,600-meter race, Devin Hanson secured third with a time of 5:16, while Cooper Gudahl took third with a time of 5:24.

Seth Siebring, Ethan Siebring, Hogan Artz, and Jaydon Putney claimed first place in the boys medley with a time of 4:03.8.

Oliver Tordsen had a strong 53-foot, 1-inch throw to secure first place in the shot put, while Benet Mathiason took fifth with a throw of 37 feet, 5 inches. Jacob Ehlert took sixth with a distance of 37 feet, while Tyler Bicknase took ninth with a throw of 35 feet, 5 inches.

In the long jump Tytan Tumbleson finished second in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 5.5 inches, while Pockrus took third with a jump of 17-7. Noah Wolner finished 14th with a jump of 14-6.5.

In the high jump, Tytan Tumbleson took second, clearing 6 feet, while Cooper Gudahl took fourth, jumping 5 feet, 6 inches. Fairmont also had Travohn Harvey lock in sixth with a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches, while Axel Chapman finished 16th with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches.

In the boys pole vault, Jase Meade cleared 9 feet 6 inches to take second, while Devin Hanson made it over 8 feet, 6 inches for third place. Dayton Draper cleared 7 feet, 6 inches for fifth place, while Eli Winter cleared 6 feet for sixth.

Pockrus jumped a total of 37 feet, 11 inches to take first in the triple jump, while Tytan Tumbleson cleared 36 feet, 7 inches to take second. Carmyne Hecht took fourth with a distance of 31 feet, 8 inches, while Kegan Roloff put up a distance of 28 feet, 2 inches for eighth place.
