Red Bulls trio hangs on at state on Day 1
ST. PAUL – Martin County Red Bulls’ three state wrestlers stayed alive on Day 1 of the Class AA State Individual Wrestling Tournament Friday at the Xcel Energy Center, moving on to the final day of the tournament Saturday.
Torrey Paplow led the Red Bulls Friday with a pair of wins at 145 pounds, winning his first-round match against St. Paul Johnson’s Gabriel Park via 16-1 tech fall. Paplow fell to Landen Kujawa by tech fall 23-7 before claiming a tech-fall victory over Landon Bizal.
Pierce Rohman, wrestling at 133 pounds, fell in the championship round to Bennett Kujawa of Becker via decision 7-3, but won his consolation bout to stay alive in the tournament, defeating Kadin Martin of Grand Rapids via decision 6-2.
Paplow fell to Landen Kujawa by tech fall 23-7 before claiming a tech-fall victory over Landon Bizal 20-5.
Maddex Faber, wrestling at 172 pounds, fell to Becker’s Owen Angell in the first round by pin in 3:29, but Faber won his consolation match over Wilson Nordquist of Zumbrota-Mazeppa by a 10-9 decision.
