Area roundup: Mavs fall to Windom
BOYS BASKETBALL
WINDOM 96, MCW 70
SHERBURN – The Martin County West Mavericks fell to Windom 96-70 in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday evening.
Leading the Mavericks was Jacob Wilmes with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jeremiah Olson had 14 points and five rebounds. Kale Larson had 8 points and five rebounds, while Chase Owens had 8 points and 11 rebounds.
The Mavericks are now 9-17 overall and 5-7 in conference play and await seeding for the Section 2A tournament.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
BLHS 67, GHEC/T/ML 64
HECTOR – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 67-64 in the first round of the Section 2A Tournament Monday night.
Leading the Jaguars was Keira Benck with 22 points and three rebounds, while Londyn Bowers had 17 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Madisen Lewis had 9 points and three rebounds, while Addison Nowicki had 8 points and three rebounds.
PREP WRESTLING
FEB 21.
DAWSON – The Martin County West Red Bulls had five wrestlers place and three advance to the individual state tournament after the Section 3AA tournament on Saturday.
Torrey Paplow, Maddex Faber, and Pierce Rohman punched their ticket to a state appearance securing second-place finishes in their respective weight classes, while David Miller secured third and Luis Martin took fifth.
Wrestling at 133 lbs, Perice Rohman won his quarterfinal match against Gavin Williams of Marshall by tech fall 19-3. Rohman secured the win in the semifinal match against Isaiah Nelson via decision 9-3. Rohman fell to Logan Schwanz by fall in the first-place match before claiming victory via no contest over Isaiah Nelson.
Luis Martin (160 lbs) secured fifth place by pinning Dawson Holtz, but was pinned by Rylan Plumley Champagne and Dirk Haynes.
Torrey Paplow secured second place at 145 pounds, first by defeating Hugo Lopez by tech fall 17-2. Paplow then defeated Holland Schacherer by tech fall 17-2 before falling to Grayson Gibson by tech fall 20-5. Paplow won his second-place match over Tyson Louwagie by tech fall 21-5.
Maddex Faber (172 lbs) secured a second-place finish by first defeating Grant McCain by tech fall. Faber secured the decision over Joshua Kraft in the semifinal round 9-3. Faber lost to Wyatt Pollard by tech fall 19-4, before claiming a no-contest victory over Joshua Kraft.
David Miller (285 lbs) pinned Payton Meis and Kyler Haugen, before being pinned by Preston Hinrichs and Braedyn Vanmeveren securing a third-place finish.
Luis Martin (160 lbs) secured fifth place by pinning Dawson Holtz but was pinned by Rylan Plumley Champagne and Dirk Haynes.
The advancing Wrestlers head to the State Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday.
