Area roundup: Cardinals sweep doubleheader

GIRLS BASKETBALL

FAIRMONT 73, PIPESTONE 50

PIPESTONE – The Fairmont Cardinals defeated Pipestone Area 73-50 Tuesday night in a Big South Conference girls basketball game.

Leading the Cardinals was Brylee Miller with 23 points, while Bria Williamson had 12 points. Gwyneth Schultz had 11 points, while Makayla Lowry had 11 points and Kennedy Becker had 8 points.

The Cardinals are now 16-7 overall and 12-6 in conference play and will host the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars for a 7:30 p.m. game on Monday.

LAKE MILLS 42, NORTH UNION 38

LAKE MILLS – The North Union Warriors were defeated by Lake Mills 42-38 in a Top of Iowa Conference girls basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Warriors was Shallie Walders with 12 points and three rebounds, while Alexis Cummins had 11 points and four rebounds. Maisey Bierstedt had 9 points and six rebounds, while Ava Steinberger had 2 points and five rebounds.

Now sitting at 14-8 overall and 11-5 in conference play the Warriors will host Northwood-Kensett for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

FAIRMONT 52, PIPESTONE 50

PIPESTONE – The Fairmont Cardinals staved off Pipestone Area to secure a 52-50 victory Tuesday night in a Big South Conference boys basketball game.

Leading the Cardinals was Logan Junkermeier with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Oliver Tordsen had 15 points and five rebounds. Joseph Hackett had 6 points and five rebounds, while Hadan Toomer had 4 points and seven rebounds.

Now 14-8 overall and 10-7 in conference play the Cardinals head to Luverne for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

REDWOOD VALLEY 95, BEA 82

REDWOOD – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers fell to Redwood Valley 95-82 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Buccaneers was Will Bromeland with 31 points and three rebounds, while Branson Hauskins had 20 points and five rebounds. Gage Barker had 12 points and four rebounds, while Sully Dahlbeg had 10 points and six rebounds.

The Buccaneers are now 9-13 overall and 4-11 in conference play and will host Pipestone for a 7:15 p.m. game on Thursday.

LAKE MILLS 58, NORTH UNION 51

LAKE MILLS – The North Union Warriors fell to Lake Mills 58-51 Tuesday night in a Top of Iowa Conference boys basketball game.

Leading the Warriors was Lane Bruhn with 16 points, while Drew Henderson had 11 points and three rebounds. Khael Jones had 7 points and two rebounds, while Greyson Colegrove had 6 points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors are now 9-12 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
