Rohman continues family legacy
SHERBURN – Martin County West sophomore wrestler Pierce Rohman comes from a storied line of wrestlers, including an All-American collegiate wrestler, and is looking to build on the family resume by breaking the 120-win mark this season.
“He’s a great kid, a hard worker,” said MCW Activities Director Tom Elliot. “He had two older brothers that were the same way. His oldest brother, Jaxson, is an All-American for Augustana wrestling, Carver was a good wrestler in high school in his own regard, too. So, a long line of hard-working kids. And he’s no exception. A good student and multi-sport athlete … he’s kind of what you kind of want in a student-athlete at the high school level.”
As it currently sits, Rohman is 109-19 with 29 pins, 23 technical falls, and 333 takedowns while only giving up 47.
“It’s been in my family ever since my grandpa,” said Rohman. “I think he started it, and then all my uncles did it, and they were all really good. My older brothers did it, and then I started it when I was like 5, or probably even before that, and I’ve been doing it ever since.”
The multi-sport athlete tries to stay busy regardless of the season. In addition to wrestling, Rohman also plays football and baseball and brings the same tenacity regardless of the sport.
“I think my mentality stays the same for both of them,” said Rohman. “Trying to have fun with it and do my best.”
Rohman is looking at wrestling in college as time goes on, following in the footsteps of his brother before him, even leaning towards Augustana, but is currently waiting to see what his options are.
“You know, I don’t really know,” said Rohman. “I haven’t really thought about that. I’ve thought about Augustana because my brother wrestles there, so that’s an option. We’ll see how good I get and what colleges give me offers.”
Coming off of his freshman season where he made it to the state individual wrestling tournament, Rohman has become more comfortable but acknowledges the pressure he feels to perform on the mat.
“Last year, I felt a lot more pressure than I did this year,” said Rohman. “This year, I’ve been a lot better at just focusing on myself and having fun. But yeah, there is a lot of pressure with it, with the family being so good and me trying to be good.”
Outside of the athletic world, Rohman likes to spend his free time with the usual leisure activities, but his primary focus is on competition.
“I like getting out with friends and hanging out with them,” said Rohman. “I like bonfires and just talking, chilling. Outside of that, all I really do is wrestle and lift.
Rohman is aiming for 200 wins in his career, and if he’s able to secure 11 more victories this season, he will reach his goal of 120 for the season.
Fans and supporters of Red Bulls wrestling can head to Maple River for the conclusion of the regular season at 9:30 am Saturday.
