Area roundup: Cardinals’ hockey teams split wins Friday night
GIRLS HOCKEY
FAIRMONT 5, MORRIS-BENSON 2
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals (13-9-1) cruised by Morris-Benson 5-2 in a nonconference hockey game Friday night.
Leading the Cardinals was Mariel Parish with two goals and an assist, while Francesca Martin added a goal. Alexis Haycraft added a goal and an assist, while Abigail Sundeen added a goal and an assist. Cards goaltender IIana Moeller had 12 saves on the night.
The Cardinals head to Austin for a 7 p.m. game on Monday.
BOYS HOCKEY
MORRIS-BENSON 8, FAIRMONT 7 (OT)
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals fell to Morris-Benson in overtime 8-7 Friday night in a nonconference hockey game.
Leading The Cardinals was Klay Beemer with two goals, while Tyler Kurt had two goals. Jace Meade added a goal, while Keagan Roloff and Gavin Kester each added a goal. Fairmont goaltender Brandon Hector had 28 saves on the night.
Falling to 0-14, the Cardinals head to La Crescent-Hokah at 3 p.m. Saturday.

MCW 52, ST. CLAIR 45
ST. CLAIR – The Martin County West Mavericks (16-3) defeated St. Clair in a nonconference basketball game Friday night.
Leading the Mavericks was Emily Anderson with 22 points, while Emily Schettlerr had 12 points. Maddie Carlson had 10 points, while Courtney Anderson had 8 points.
The Mavericks host Sleepy Eye on at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
NORTH UNION 48, WEST HANCOCK 35
ARMSTRONG, IA – The North Union Warriors (11-6) defeated West Hancock 48-35 Friday night in a Top of Iowa Conference basketball game.
Leading the Warriors was Ainsley Ulrich with 20 points and three rebounds, while Shallie Walders had 12 points and six rebounds. Maisey Bierstedt had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Alexis Cummins had 6 points and two rebounds.
The Warriors host Belmond-Klemme at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

MADELIA 89, GHEC/T/ML 56
NORTHROP – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars (7-8) fell to Madelia 89-56 Friday night in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division basketball game.
Leading the Jaguars was Eli Jensen with 21 points and three steals, while Jackson Madsen had 14 points and seven rebounds. Brody Grathwohl had 13 points, while Bryce Borkenhagen had 4 points, four rebounds and eight assists.
The Jaguars now 7-8 head to Cleveland at 7 p.m. on Monday.
NORTH UNION 67, WEST HANCOCK 54
ARMSTRONG, IA – The North Union Warriors (6-10) defeated West Hancock 67-54 in a Top of Iowa Conference basketball game Friday night.
Leading the Warriors was Grayson Colegrove with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Lane Bruhn had 16 points and a rebound. Caden Walders had 11 points and two rebounds, while Drew Henderson had 8 points.
North Union hosts Belmond-Klemme at 7:30 p.m Tuesday.
