Area roundup: Anderson’s 40-point night leads Mavericks to victory

MCW 60, GHEC/T/ML 52

GRANADA – The Martin County West Mavericks (16-3) defeated the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars Thursday night in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game.

Leading the Mavericks was Emily Anderson with 40 points and 12 rebounds, while Ida Rohman had 7 points and three rebounds. Maddie Carlson had 4 points and Emily Schettler had 4 points and five rebounds

Leading the Jaguars was Keira Benck with 26 points and four rebounds, while Londyn Bowers had 7 points and two rebounds. Harley Geistfeld had 6 points, while Addison Nowicki and Madisen Lewis each had 4 points and four rebounds.

The Jaguars head to Blue Earth at 7 p.m. Saturday and the Mavericks head to St. Clair Friday at 7 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

MCW 69, NRHEG 47

SHERBURN – The Martin County West Mavericks (5-12) defeated New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 69-47 Thursday night in a nonconference basketball game.

Leading the Mavericks was Jacob Wilmes with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Kale Larson had 18 points and five steals.

The Mavericks host Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Monday at 7 p.m.

PREP WRESTLING

RED BULLS 42, WINDOM/MOUNTAIN LAKE 35

WASECA 42, REB BULLS 35

WASECA – The Red Bulls split a triangular with Waseca and Windom/Mountain Lake defeating Windom/Mountain Lake 42-35, but fell to Waseca 42-35.

This moved the Red Bulls to 11-4 on the season.

Leading the Red Bulls was 133-pound Pierce Rohman, who won both of his matches, one by pinning Dagen Hansen, and one by a technical fall over Jacob Knutson. At 145 pounds Torrey Paplow won both of his matches by pinning Keanin Linscheid and Jaiden Schafer. Kaedin Lange (152 lbs) won both of his matches, one by forfeit and the other by pinning Oliver Staloch.

The Red Bulls head to Lamberton at 4 p.m. Friday.
