Area roundup: Wilmes free throws propel Mavericks past Cleveland

MAVERICKS 76, CLEVELAND 75

SHERBURN – Jacob Wilmes hit two free throws with 6.9 seconds remaining in the game to lock in a Martin County West Mavericks (4-8) 76-75 victory over Cleveland in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game Friday night.

The scoring leaders for the Mavericks were Wilmes with 43 points and 16 rebounds, while Lucas Larson had 10 points.

The Mavericks head to Loyola at 7 p.m. Monday.

GHEC/T/ML 65, LOYOLA 55

GRANADA – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman Jaguars (6-6) were able to secure the victory over Loyola 65-55 Friday night in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game.

Leading the Jaguars was Eli Jensen with 23 points, four steals and four assists, while Bryce Borkenhagen had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jackson Madsen had 13 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

The Jaguars host Saint James at 7 p.m. on Monday.

PIPESTONE 77, BEA 57

PIPESTONE – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers (6-6) fell to Pipestone 77-57 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game Friday night.

Leading the Buccaneers was Will Bromeland with 18 points and two rebounds, while Sully Dahlberg had 15 points and nine rebounds. Gage Barker had 9 points and four rebounds, while Jacob Grandgenett had 8 points and two rebounds and Branson Hauskins had 7 points and three rebounds.

The Buccaneers head to Jackson County Central at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.

WASECA 78, FAIRMONT 40

WASECA – The Fairmont Cardinals (8-4) lost to Waseca Friday night 78-40 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game.

Leading the Cardinals was Harmon Schrunks with 12 points and five rebounds, while Oliver Tordsen had 10 points and nine rebounds. Joseph Hackett had 8 points and two rebounds, while Nolan Schultze had 4 points.

Fairmont heads to Windom on Tuesday.
