GIRLS BASKETBALL

WELLS – The Martin County West Mavericks girls basketball team secured a 53-49 victory over United South Central in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game Tuesday night

Emily Anderson led the Mavericks with 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Maddie Carlson added 10 points,11 rebounds, and two steals. Courtney Anderson had 8 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Avery Sanders added 7 points.

The Mavericks’ next game is at Nicollet at 7 p.m. Friday.

NORTH UNION 48, BELMOND-KLEMME 43

BELMOND, Iowa – The North Union Warriors girls basketball team defeated Belmond-Klemme 48-43 in a Top of Iowa Conference girls basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Warriors was Ainsley Ulrich with 17 points and four rebounds, while Shallie Walders had 11 points and eight rebounds. Maisey Bierstedt had 7 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Alexis Cummins added 5 points and two rebounds.

The Warriors’ next game is at Bishop Garrigan at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

BELMOND-KLEMME 72, NORTH UNION 43

BELMOND, Iowa – The North Union Warriors fell to Belmond-Klemme 72-43 in a Top of Iowa Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Warriors was Lane Bruhn with 10 points and six rebounds, while Khael Jones had 9 points and six rebounds. Greyson Colegrove added 9 points and three rebounds on the night.

The Warriors’ next game is at Bishop Garrigan at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

BEA 67, ST. CLAIR 64

ST. CLAIR – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers secured a 67-64 victory over St. Clair in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Buccaneers was Will Bromeland with 22 points and four rebounds, while Gage Barker added 18 points and eight rebounds. Branson Hauskins had 16 points and three for the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers next game is at Tri-City United at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

FAIRMONT 5, WORTHINGTON 0

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont girls hockey team shut out Worthington 5-0 in a Big South Conference girls hockey game on Tuesday night.

Leading the Cardinals was Alexis Haycraft with two goals and an assist, while Francesca Martin added a goal and two assists. Joslyn Meyer and Lauren Bettin each added a goal and goaltender Alexis Sundeed saved 16 of 16 shots faced.

The Cardinals head to Marshall at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

WORTHINGTON 7, FAIRMONT 2

WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont Cardinals boys hockey team fell to Worthington 7-2 Tuesday night in a Big South Conference boys hockey game.

WORTHINGTON 135.375, MCA MAGIC 133.25

FAIRMONT – The Martin County Area Magic were outscored by Worthington 135.357-133.25 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet Tuesday night. Lily Schultz scored 34.3 overall securing second place, secured a second-place finish in the vault scoring an 8.85, finished first in the bars with an 8.65, seventh on the beam with a score of 7.70 and first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.1. Ava Thate finished fourth all-around with a score of 33.075, taking 10th in the vault (8.4), seventh on bars (7.925), third on the beam (8.25), sixth in the floor exercise (8.5). Jadyn Montgomery placed sixth all-around (32.525), ninth in the vault (8.4), sixth in the bars (8.025), ninth on the beam (7.45) and fourth in the floor exercise (8.65).

The Magic’s next meet is at home at 10 a.m. January 4 hosting multiple schools.

Red Bulls secure sixth at Pizza Ranch Invite

JACKSON – The Martin County Area Red Bulls secured a sixth-place finish in the Pizza Ranch Invite Saturday.

Torrey Paplow (145) claimed a first-place finish for the Red Bulls, while Maddex Faber secured first in the 160-pound weight class. Kate Kolbe secured a first-place finish. Pierce Rohman secured a second place finish and David Miller took fourth at heavyweight.

The Red Bulls’ next invite is at Redwood Valley at 9 a.m. Saturday.
