Cardinals net five in third to secure win

FAIRMONT – A high-flying third period led to an emphatic 8-0 win for the Fairmont Cardinals over the Austin Packers Saturday in a nonconference girls hockey game Saturday.

Leading the Cardinals was Alexis Haycraft with four goals and an assist, while Harper Artz, Kynlee Beemer, Joslyn Meyer and Lauren Bettin added a goal each. Carly Gustafson added three assists for the Cardinals, Mariel Parish had two assists, Kennedy Murphy had two assists, and Francesca Martin added an assist on the night.

The first goal came from Artz, assisted by Parish, followed by a power-play goal by Alexis Haycraft assisted by Martin. Bettin netted the third goal of the game assisted by Alexis Haycraft and Murphy. Alexis Haycraft netted the next two goals assisted by Bettin, Gustafson and Martin, followed by Joslyn Meyer netting a goal assisted by Parish. Beemer tacked on the seventh courtesy of a Murphy assist and Alexis Haycraft lit the lamp again with the help of Lauen Bettin and Gustafson for the final goal of the game.

Alexis Sundeen stopped all 11 shots she faced in net also for the Cardinals, who moved to 6-3 on the year and host Worthington on Tuesday.
