Area Roundup: Magic secure second win, top Marshall

GYMNASTICS

MCA 125.25, MARSHALL 114.525

MARSHALL – The Martin County Area Magic flew past the Marshall Gymnastics squad 125.25-114.525 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet Tuesday night.

Leading the Magic was Jaydyn Montgomery, who scored an all-around 32.675 to take first place. She was first in the vault with an 8.7, first in bars with an 8.15, first in the floor exercise with an 8.35 and fifth on the beam with a 7.475. With her was Ava Thate with a third-place all-around finish scoring a 30.175, third in the vault (8.325), fifth in bars (7.35), third on the beam (7.5) and eighth in the floor exercise (7.0). Nola Thedens put up a 29.425 all-around score, taking second in the vault (8.675), 10th in bars (5.05), second on the beam (8.2) and fifth in the floor exercise (7.5). Adrianna Knafla finished ninth all-around (24.125), third in bars (8.05) and first on the beam (8.25).

The Magic’s next meet is against Worthington at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Fairmont.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ST. CLAIR 59, GHEC/T/ML 46

ST. CLAIR – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars (1-2) fell to St. Clair trailing 31-21 at the half and ending the night 59-46 in a nonconference basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Jaguars was Jackson Madsen, who put up 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Carson Hastad had 13 points. Eli Jensen added 8 points and Brody Grathwohl put up 7 points to finish the night.

The Jaguars host Cleveland at 7 p.m. Saturday in Granada.

LUVERNE 72, BEA 62

BLUE EARTH – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers (1-1) took on Luverne in a Big South Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night trailing 38-26 at the half they ultimately finished the night down 72-62.

Leading the Buccaneers was Branson Hauskins with 17 points and three rebounds, while Will Bromeland put up 17 points and five rebounds. Gage Barker added 8 points, six assists and five rebounds and Caden Juba had 7 points, an assist and two rebounds.

BEA will take on Jackson County Central at 7:15 p.m. in Blue Earth on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MCW 58, GHEC/T/ML 48

TRIMONT – The Martin County West Mavericks secured a 58-48 victory over the Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game.

Leading the Mavericks was Emily Anderson, who put up 15 points and seven rebounds and Avery Sanders had 13 points, while Maddie Carlson added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Leaders for the Jaguars were Keira Benck, who had 14 points, and Madison Lewis, who had 11 points and five rebounds. Addi Nowicki added 7 points on the night for the Jaguars.

The Mavericks will head to Fairmont for the next game at 2 p.m. Saturday and The Jaguars will take on Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons at 7 p.m. in Granada.
