Area roundup: MCW stays perfect after defeating AC/GE

TRIMONT – The Martin County West Mavericks hung on to secure the victory over Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 46-42 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game Tuesday night.

Leading the Mavericks was Emily Schettler with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Maddie Carlson put up 8 points and 12 rebounds and Emily Anderson added 8 points to the scoreboard.

The Mavericks (4-0) next game is on the road against Loyola Catholic School Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Campus Gymnasium.

ST. CLAIR 68, GHEC/T/ML 59

NORTHROP — St. Clair downed Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 68-59 Tuesday in a nonconference girls basketball game.

Londyn Bowers led the Jaguars with 22 points, while Addi Nowicki had 16 points. Keira Benck added 12 points.

GHEC/T/ML (1-1) hosts Nicollet on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LCWM 58, FAIRMONT 42

LAKE CRYSTAL – The Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Knights held off the Fairmont Cardinals in a Big South Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night 58-42.

Leading the Cardinals was Hadan Toomer with 9 points and Harmon Schrunk added 8 points, while Oliver Tordsen put up 8 points of his own and Joseph Hackett added 7 points to the scoreboard.

Fairmont’s next game is against St. James at 6 p.m. at home Friday.

NORTH UNION 66, WBM 48

WEST BEND, IOWA — North Union defeated West Bend-Mallard 66-48 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Khael Jones led the Warriors with 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Caden Walders had 11 points and six rebounds. Greyson Colegrove had 10 points and six rebounds, while Cole Nicoson had 10 points and nine rebounds.

North Union (1-0) travels to North Iowa on Friday.
