Fairmont, MCW dominate 2024 All-Sentinel Football
FAIRMONT – With the high school football season coming to a close recently for The Sentinel’s area schools, the 2024 All-Sentinel Football Team has officially been selected.
Here are this year’s All-Sentinel players.
Fairmont Cardinals senior star running back Elijah Johnson led the run game for Fairmont with 247 carries for 1,671 yards and 26 touchdowns. Johnson also snagged seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, with his season-high performance against Worthington where he went for 210 yards and five touchdowns.
Cardinals receiver Nolan Schultze had a solid senior season for Fairmont, catching 33 passes for 617 yards and five touchdowns, with his game high being 145 yards against Belle Plaine. He also added three carries for 55 yards. Defensively Schultze had 40 tackles, 17 solo and 23 assisted, while grabbing three interceptions and three tackles for a loss.
Fairmont senior linebacker Caleb Chambers caused problems for the offenses he faced all season putting up 71 total tackles, 31 solos, 40 assisted. Ten of his tackles were for a loss and he also recovered four fumbles.
Senior defensive end Hank Artz closed out his tenure at Fairmont with 58 total tackles, 23 solo and 35 assisted with eight sacks and an interception.
Fairmont senior Hadan Toomer put up 58 total tackles with 33 solo and 25 assisted, while adding an interception and a tackle for a loss.
Martin County West Mavericks senior Jacob Wilmes proved vital for his team this year playing on both sides of the ball at tight end and linebacker. Defensively Wilmes had 51 tackles, nine for a loss, and two defensive touchdowns. On offense Wilmes caught 11 passes for 164 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground he added 134 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.
Triple-threat player Bear Kosbab, a senior who lined up at wide receiver, defensive back and running back, had 23 catches for 236 yards and two touchdowns, adding 325 yards and another four touchdowns on 50 carries. Defensively Kosbab had 19 tackles and three interceptions for the season.
Senior wide receiver and defensive back Lucas Larson was a key component to the Mavericks’ offense, putting up 29 catches for 370 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, he had 23 tackles, three interceptions and a defensive touchdown.
Playing the last three games of the season with a broken foot, sophomore quarterback and linebacker Maddex Faber stepped up as a leader for the Mavericks, going 80 for 137 through the air, totaling 887 yards and 10 touchdowns. He added 37 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Cameron Meyer, senior running back and defensive end for the Mavericks, had 84 carries for 379 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 38 tackles, three sacks and an interception on defense.
Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman senior quarterback and defensive end Jackson Madsen was a key player for his squad, completing 83 of 171 passes for 937 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran the ball 118 times for 993 yards and 10 touchdowns. On defense Madsen added 61 tackles, three sacks and 13 tackles for a loss.
The 2024 All-Sentinel Football Player of the Year will be revealed Friday.
