Area roundup: Fairmont boys soccer team secures 2-1 victory

ST. JAMES – The Fairmont boys soccer team secured the 2-1 win over St. James/Madelia-Windom in a conference soccer game Thursday night.
Leading Fairmont was Xavier Garcia and Leonardo Fortin with a goal each, while Brody Deuel had eight saves.
The junior varsity squad secured a 4-0 win for the night with goals coming from Xavier Garcia, who had two, while Henery Zuniga and Fernando Pablo Gomez added a goal each. Goalkeeper Hunter Olson had three saves.
The C-squad came away with a 4-1 win. Leading them was Carter Simmering with two goals, while Archer Pomerenke added one goal of his own and Caden Deuel had a goal and an assist. Cooper Wiederhoeft saved three goals.

Fairmont girls take 4th in Jackson
JACKSON – The Fairmont cross-country team participated in the Jackson County Central Tri for Health meet Thursday, with the girls taking fourth overall and the boys securing a fifth-place finish.
Leading the girls in the 5000m race was Macy Hanson who secured second place with a time of 20:54.55, while Kendra Blomster finished 24th running a 26:45.21. Delaney Klug took 25th with a time of 26:55.64, while Samantha Domeier ran a 33:46.48, securing her the 45th-place slot and Elizabeth Hart finished the race in 49th with a time of 35:39.39.
Leading the boys was Cooper Gudahl, who secured eighth with a time of 18:25.92, while Devin Hanson finished with a time of 19:41.06, landing him in 15th place. Andrew Haugen took 16th with a time of 19:41.69, while Braydon Lindsay took 18th with a time of 20:09.98. Michael Hamlet ran a time of 23:37.5, Leon Yang took 48th with a time of 24:37.86 and Matthew Sennef ran a time of 24:48.3 landing him in 48th place.
Fairmont’s next meet will be Thursday at St. James Golf Course.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
CLEVELAND 3, MCW 0
CLEVELAND – Martin County West fell to Cleveland 3-0 in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday 25-8, 25-13, 25-15.
Leading MCW was Maddie Carlson with four kills and 12 digs and Emily Anderson, who added four kills and 11 digs. Emily Schettler had two aces and four digs, while Addy Wohlhuter and Avery Sanders had 10 kills each.
MCW will play Nicollet on Tuesday at home.
GHEC/TRUMAN 3, NICOLLET 0
NORTHROP – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman Jaguars defeated Nicollet in a Valley Conference volleyball match 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 Thursday.
Leading the Jaguars was Londyn Bowers with 14 kills, two aces, and eight digs, while Madisen Lewis added seven kills and a block. Norah Chase had two blocks and Addison Nowicki added one block. Harley Geistfeld added an ace and Keira Benck and Lindsey Diegnau had 13 blocks each.
The Jaguars will be playing in a tournament at United South Central High School Saturday.
