Fairmont PeeWee hockey team wins District 4 crown

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team reeled off three consecutive victories to win the District 4 championship last weekend in Redwood Falls.

Fairmont advances to compete in the opening round of the regional tournament at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Rochester.

Bennett Draper produced two goals and one assist, while teammate Kane Wohlhuter connected for two goals to power Fairmont to an 8-0 first-round district triumph over Windom Area last Friday.

Ryder Thate distributed three assists, Van Kollofski supplied one goal and one helper, while Hogan Artz, Logan Droegemueller and Carter Spitzer netted one goal apiece.

Drake Manwarren and Colton Schroeder doled out one assist each, while goaltender Blakeley Scholl earned the shutout by recording 11 saves.

Kollofski and Wohlhuter each produced three goals and one assist to engineer Fairmont’s 9-3 semifinal win over Worthington last Saturday.

Draper collected two goals and one helper, Artz tallied one net-finding shot and one assist, while Luther Malo, William Egeness, Kaleb Kennedy and Manwarren dished out one assist each.

Scholl turned away a dozen shots on goal, while teammate Johnnie Frerichs contributed three stops between the pipes.

Wohlhuter unleashed four goals and Thate distributed four assists to help Fairmont double up Marshall, 8-4, in the district championship clash last Sunday.

Draper chalked up two goals and one helper, Kollofski doled out two assists, while Artz and Egeness had one goal each.

Emmet Olson and Droegemueller dished out one assist each, while Scholl notched 24 saves in net for Fairmont.

12U Girls

The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team compiled a 2-2 record to pocket third-place accolades during last weekend’s district tournament at Red Baron Arena in Marshall.

GeminnieRose Lopez netted two goals and Paige Hartwig chipped in one more to steer Fairmont to a 3-1 first-round win over Redwood Falls last Friday.

Hayden Olson, Aspen Wickert and Kylie Flanagan each distributed one assist in the win, while goaltender Nola Hazard made 19 saves to earn the decision.

Hazard chalked up a game-best 42 stops to help Fairmont slip by Marshall 4-3 during second-round district action last Saturday.

Nani Rosario, Lopez, Hartwig and Olson contributed one goal apiece to the offensive effort, while Corinn Wells distributed one assist.

New Ulm defeated Fairmont by a 6-1 third-round decision last Sunday. Hazard delivered a game-best 43 saves, while Olson scored Fairmont’s only goal.

Luverne then netted a 6-1 fourth-round win over Fairmont last Sunday. Hazard amassed an incredible 51 stops between the pipes, while Lopez accounted for Fairmont’s only goal.

Bantams

The Carlson Dental Bantams hockey team of Fairmont went 1-2 during last weekend’s District 5 tournament in Litchfield to close out the season.

No. 1-seeded St. Cloud posted a 4-1 opening-round win over Fairmont last Friday.

Bryce Ihrke tallied Carlson Dental’s lone goal off an assist from Preston Cepress, while netminder Kaden Olson turned away 42 shots on goal.

Cepress combined for two goals and one assist to help steer Fairmont to a 5-3 second-round victory over River Lakes last Saturday.

Preston Geerdes supplied one goal and one helper, Hunter Olson and Ihrke chipped in one goal each, while Caden Wickert and Noah Meixell dished out one assist each.

Kaden Olson and Kolton Hinz combined in net to turn away 20 shots on goal.

St. Michael-Albertville ended Fairmont’s season by posting a 7-1 third-round victory last Sunday.

Geerdes notched Fairmont’s lone goal, while Olson and Hinz teamed to make 53 saves.

The Carlson Dental Bantams ended the season with a 28-14-4 record.

15U Girls

The Fairmont 15U girls hockey team closed out the regular season with two more wins last Saturday on the road.

Lexi Haycraft notched two goals and netminder Alexis Sundeen tallied 10 saves to earn a shutout in steering Fairmont to a 3-0 triumph over Chaska/Chanhassen in Victoria.

Mariel Parish delivered one goal, while Halyn Haycraft and Kennedy Murphy distributed one assist each for Fairmont, which had 24 shots on goal.

Lexi Haycraft poured in four goals and Sundeen turned away six shots on net to pace Fairmont’s 7-0 win over Minnetonka in Minnetonka.

Halyn Haycraft and Parish each contributed one goal and one helper to the winning effort, Joslyn Meyer scored once, while Murphy, Kynlee Beemer and Carly Gustafson doled out one assist apiece.

Fairmont (25-5-1) earned the No. 1 seed in the District 4 tournament and opens ice action at 5 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Woodbury.
