Hanson, Artner, Myhre selected as Cardinal fall sports MVPs
FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s girls and boys cross country teams and the Cardinals’ boys soccer lineup recently announced their respective most valuable student-athletes from the fall seasons.
Junior runner Macy Hanson, who earned state medalist and all-state honors during last Saturday’s Class AA cross country meet, doubled her postseason accolades by meriting a spot on the all-state academic list.
Hanson guided the Cardinal girls cross country team to Section 2AA gold-level status in attaining a 3.75-4.0 GPA this season. The Fairmont boys lineup also earned gold-level academic honors.
Hanson and senior Gavin Artner also were selected as the respective Fairmont running teams’ MVPs for the 2023 campaign.
Carys Gudahl and Brier Lenort were deemed Fairmont’s hardest workers in cross country, while Kendra Blomster and Braydon Lindsay were tabbed as most improved on the season.
Elizabeth Hart and Matthew Senneff were recognized as the Cardinals’ rookies of the year, Brooklyn Stone and Devin Hanson netted the outstanding junior high/junior varsity runners, while Cooper Gudahl and Season Kotewa received the Cardinal Award for best team spirit.
Landon Weber was recognized for earning a place on the Cardinals’ 450-mile club, Artner did likewise at 350 miles, Blomster and Kotewa each eclipsed the 250-mile mark, while Kotewa also netted the five summer runs honor.
Switching to boys soccer, striker Theodor Myhre was selected as Fairmont Area’s most valuable player at the varsity level this fall.
Korbyn Dorow was named as the Cardinals’ most improved soccer player, while Caleb Meyer garnered rookie of the year honors.
Myhre also claimed Fairmont Area’s golden boot award, Josiah Hoye netted the golden ball honor, Aaron Graplar captured the golden guard award and the Cardinal spirit award, while netkeeper Jonathan Heinze received the golden glove award for his efforts between the pipes.
Ethan Pockrus, Angel Sanchez and Dominic Earhart were chosen as the Cardinals’ 2024 team captains.
Marco Morales pocketed the Cardinals’ junior varsity MVP honor, while Xavier Garcia merited MVP accolades at the C-squad level for 2023.
