Haycraft powers Fairmont 15U hockey to 9-1 win

FAIRMONT — Lexi Haycraft produced a game-best hat trick to power the Fairmont 15U-B girls hockey team to a season-opening 9-1 victory over Cannon River on Sunday.

Halyn Haycraft contributed two goals to Fairmont’s winning performance at Martin County Arena, while teammate Mariel Parish distributed a game-leading three assists

Lauren Bettin doled out two helpers, Kennedy Murphy and Joslyn Meyer each contributed one goal and one assist, while Carly Gustafson chipped in one goal for Fairmont.

Goaltender Lexi Sundeen turned away nine shots on net for Fairmont, which unloaded 42 shots on the Cannon River goal.

Fairmont 15U-B (1-0) has a rematch against Cannon River at 6:45 p.m. Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team netted back-to-back wins during weekend ice action at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Kane Wohlhuter erupted for a game-best four goals and dished out one assist to steer Fairmont to an 8-6 win over Luverne last Saturday.

Van Kollofski unleashed two goals and passed out a pair of assists for Fairmont, teammate Ryder Thate supplied one goal and two helpers, while Logan Droegemueller netted one goal.

Wohlhuter generated three more goals to power Fairmont to a 9-2 triumph over Okoboji on Sunday at Martin County Arena.

Thate collected two goals and one helper in Fairmont’s winning ways, while teammates Bennett Draper and Hogan Artz chipped in one goal and one assist apiece.

Colton Schroeder and Kaleb Kennedy tallied one goal each for Fairmont, while Luther Malo added an assist.

Fairmont (2-0) plays host to New Ulm/Sleepy Eye at noon Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont before squaring off against Windom at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Carlson Dental Bantam ‘B’ hockey team opened the season with a 2-1-1 record during weekend ice action on the road.

Preston Geerdes produced a game-best hat trick and one assist to power Fairmont to a 4-1 win over host Buffalo B-2 Purple last Saturday.

Tyler Pankow netted one goal for Carlson Dental, while Josh Newville, Bryce Ihrke and Preston Cepress each distributed one assist.

Kaden Olson handled the goalkeeping duties in the first and third periods, tallying 18 saves, while Fairmont teammate Kolton Hines turned away five shots during the second frame.

Carlson Dental finished with 18 shots on goal.

Geerdes’ second goal — off a double-assist from Ihrke and Caleb Meyer — with 1:49 remaining in regulation helped Fairmont salvage a 4-all tie with Buffalo B-2 White on Saturday.

Meixell supplied one goal and one helper for Fairmont, Cepress tallied one goal and Caden Wickert doled out an assist in the deadlocked game.

Hinz chalked up 18 saves while tending net in the first and third frames, while Kaden Olson tallied 13 stops during the second period between the pipes.

St. Michael-Albertville B-2 Blue rolled to a 7-1 win over Fairmont during ice action Sunday in Albertville.

Cepress cashed in a Hunter Thate pass for Carlson Dental’s only goal of the contest. Olson made two saves in two periods of action, while Hinz chipped in one stop during the middle frame.

Cepress netted the eventual game-winning goal during the third period of Fairmont’s 3-2 win over St. Michael-Albertville B-2 Gold on Sunday in Albertville.

Cepress assisted Geerdes’ initial goal of the game, Blake Thompson converted Lucas Kotewa’s assist into a goal, while Cepress knocked home a pass from Ihrke with 6:40 remaining in the third period.

Hinz made 19 saves between the pipes in two frames for Fairmont, while Olson stopped 21 shots during the second period.

The Carlson Dental Bantam ‘B’ team (2-1-1) opens the Albert Lea tournament against Cottage Grove at 7:45 p.m. Friday night in Albert Lea.

The Fairmont 12U-B girls hockey team lost its first two games of the season during ice action last weekend at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Luverne shut out Fairmont, 4-0, during Saturday’s game. Netminder Nola Hazard amassed an incredible 50 saves on the game for Fairmont.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye then edged Fairmont by a 3-1 decision on Sunday at Martin County Arena.

Hazard turned away an incredible 54 shots on goal by NUSE, while teammate Hayden Olson cashed in a pass from Elin Scheppmann for Fairmont’s only goal.

Fairmont (0-2) plays host to Windom at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena.
