GHEC/Truman football flattens Renville Co. West, 26-6

DANUBE — Jackson Madsen and Hunter Grathwohl packed a lethal 1-2 punch on both sides of the line of scrimmage to power Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman to a 26-6 victory over Renville County West during prep football action Friday night.

Madsen generated one touchdown on offense to complement contributing a pick-6 from a defensive perspective, while Grathwohl hammered his way on the ground for a game-best 171 yards and two scores to top the purple-and-white’s 20-point margin of victory in Danube.

Madsen crossed the goal line from 3 yards out to account for the only points of the opening quarter before GHEC/Truman and RCW battled to a scoreless second segment.

Grathwohl then pounded his way into the end zone on a 15-yard run before breaking loose for a 76-yard sprint to extend GHEC/Truman’s lead to 18-0 after three completed quarters.

Madsen then returned the second of his game-leading two interceptions for 94 yards and a TD before Grathwohl ran for the 2-point conversion to widen their lead to 26-0 in the fourth frame.

Jayden Bellecourt topped GHEC/Truman’s defensive performance with nine tackles, Bryce Borkenhagen supplied seven stops and Grathwohl chipped in 6.5 tackles.

Aiden Wieland, Borkenhagen and Grathwohl each recovered a fumble for the purple-and-white defensive unit.

Madsen completed 8 of 16 passes for 74 yards on the game.

Jasen Jansen scored RCW’s TD on a 6-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman (3-1) travels to Alden on Friday night to face Alden-Conger/Glenville Emmons in a 7 p.m. game.

Maple River 7, Blue Earth Area 6 — Julius Jeroncic’s PAT kick proved the difference as the Eagles rallied for a fourth-quarter touchdown to edge the Bucs during prep football action Friday night at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.

Trailing 6-0, quarterback Zach Trio fired a 17-yard scoring strike to Braxton Simon to knot the defensive-themed clash during the final frame.

Blue Earth Area claimed a 6-0 halftime lead when quarterback Jacob Grandgenett completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Blake Sonnek during the second quarter.

Grandgenett topped the Bucs’ ground game by gaining 80 yards on 13 carries, while teammate Kade Gaydon contributed 41 more yards on eight totes.

Gage Barker pocketed an interception to pace Blue Earth Area’s defensive effort.

Tyler Hollerich made eight tackles to lead Maple River.

Blue Earth Area (0-4) plays host to Luverne at 7 p.m. Friday night at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.

Lake Mills 20, North Union 12 — Running backs Logan Bacon and Beau Kaufman combined for 215 rushing yards and two touchdowns to help the Iowa Class A No. 9-ranked Bulldogs fend off the Warriors during prep football action Friday night in Armstrong.

Bacon generated a team-best 125 yards on 16 totes, while Kaufman supplied 90 more yards via a game-high 23 carries. Both players scored once.

Alex Mannes chipped in a TD for Lake Mills, while teammate Garrett Ham converted a 2-point run.

Landon Price made seven tackles to top the Bulldogs, Jeremiah Jensen netted six stops and Kaufman added 5.5 tackles. Chace Gaetzke delivered a fumble recovery for Lake Mills.

Running back Landon Hagedorn led all ground gainers by amassing a game-best 128 yards on 18 carries for North Union.

Quarterback Grady Madden chipped in 37 yards and one TD on 10 rushes for the Warriors, while adding a touchdown toss to Preston Guerdet during the down-to-the-wire clash. Guerdet finished with two catches for 20 yards, while Madden completed 4 of 5 passes for 30 yards.

Colin Rasch led North Union’s defense by recording 10.5 tackles, Madden generated 6.5 stops and Brennan Bollinger added 5.5 tackles. Hagedorn added a fumble recovery for the Warriors.

North Union (2-3) plays host to West Fork at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Armstrong.
