Unfair and detrimental HUD housing practices
Dear editor, I feel I must speak out for myself and many others in my current situation. I have lived in HUD housing for the majority of my life due to economic situations.
I currently live in a property in Fairmont Minnesota, I plan to move to another property not far away. I’m told by both landlords due to a rule about not having housing vouchers at two places at the same time and now I must vacate my current apartment by March 31st but cannot move into my new apartment until April 1st. Both property managers have made it clear that I must vacate one and cannot reside in the other until told that I am allowed to.
This leaves me in the predicament where I have just under 24 hours where I have nowhere to go with my possessions or myself. It was suggested by both property managers that I get a U-Haul put my things in a U-Haul and either sleep in it or in a hotel for the evening or maybe a friend’s house. I can park said U-Haul on the street but not on the new property. My new landlord says she’s run into this with other residents and she doesn’t know a good remedy for the situation.
I just wanted to point out a flaw in the system. I don’t personally expect to get any help I am searching out help with friends and I did look into renting a trailer for the night though it’s not the most feasible situation for me. I have also written an email to Mr. Bjorn Olson. I will continue to speak out on this topic not only for myself but the many others that are trapped in the same situation. Thank you for your time and consideration.
