Lee Ann Backstrom

FAIRMONT — Lee Ann Birgit (Ohman) Backstrom went to her heavenly home on Feb. 25, 2025, at the age of 90.
Lee Ann was born to Anna Linnea (Flodström) Ohman and Birger Ohman on March 15, 1934, in Chicago, Ill. They moved from the Chicago area to Fairmont, Minn., in 1948. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1951.
She married Charles “Knute” Backstrom in 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Fairmont, where they made their home. Lee Ann and Charles were blessed with three children, Lori, Daniel and Gregg.
She was a loving wife, daughter, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed community activities, including Red Rock Center for the Arts and Fairmont Opera House. She was active in her church, enjoyed card club, reading, knitting and crocheting. There were many family camping trips when the children were growing up.
Lee Ann is survived by her children, Lori Evans (Karl), Gregg Backstrom (Mary), grandchildren Stacy Denman (Jake), Taylor Evans (Shawna), Megan Simons (Aaron), four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Helen Nelson, brother-in-law Bernie Mens, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, husband Charles, son Daniel, brothers Ralph and Roy.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fairmont, Minn. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery.

Lee Ann filled our lives with love and a strong sense of community. She believed we were in a better place if we worked together and gave more than we took. We miss her dearly and will gain immensely if we follow her example.
