William Ross Kempf

BLUE EARTH — It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of William Ross Kempf, fondly known as “Uncle Ross,” who left us peacefully on Feb. 27, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on June 16, 1947, in St. Louis, Miss., to William J. and Lennie (Nichols) Kempf, Ross led a life full of adventure, love, and cherished connections. After graduating high school from Richmond Heights, Ross pursued further education at an electronics school in Des Moines, IA, before moving to Blue Earth, Minn. It was at Telex where he met his soulmate LuAnn and celebrated an unforgettable proposal after just three months–complete with a box of Cracker Jacks that would forever symbolize their whimsical romance. Since 1989, Ross co-owned East Chain LP Gas, serving his community with dedication and warmth until making his last delivery in Aug. 2023. Throughout his years, Ross was known for his jovial spirit–whether he was hitting the casinos for a night of craps and Mississippi stud, cruising on motorcycle rides, tinkering with his classic cars or sharing quality time with his beloved golden retrievers. Ross will forever be remembered for his infectious smile and his ability to connect with everyone he met. He adored taking trips to Vegas with friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

He will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law; Roger (Wanda) Samdal, sisters-in-law; Kay Hanevik and Pat Hanevik, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lu, and two brothers. A Memorial Service celebrating Ross’s vibrant life will be held at Patton Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Online condolences can be left, and a livestream of the service can be viewed at www.pattonfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations to UHD Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
