Robert L. Johnson

LAKE CITY — Robert (Bob/BJ) Lymond Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully on Feb. 18 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester, Minn.

Bob was born on June 24, 1934, in Staples, Minn., the third of 12 children born to Lymond and Marie Johnson. After high school, he worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis, where he met the love of his life Eloise (Ellie). After serving in Okinawa with the U.S. Army, he and Eloise married in 1959. In 1966, Bob took a job at Teledyne Aerospace in Fairmont, Minn., where he worked his way up to vice president of marketing and sales.

Bob valued family above all else. He and Eloise prioritized their 6 children. Bob passed on his favorite hobbies, teaching his children and grandchildren to swim, waterski, and fish. He was also a man of strong faith throughout his 50 years at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

After retiring, Bob and Ellie spent their winters in Florida and later moved to Lake City, MN. Soon after Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and Eloise cared for him at home until his recent hospitalization.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eloise (Hennen), his children Terese (Jon) Helberg of Prescott, Wis., Craig (Christine) Johnson of San Diego, Calif., Jenny (Michael) Walsh of Rochester, Minn., Susan (John) Howe of Eden Prairie, Minn., Brad (Marcia) Johnson of Maple Grove, Minn., and Keri (Greg) Grokowsky of Holmen, Wis. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at St. Mary’s of The Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father The Hoang officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
