Dorothy Ruth (Abel) Plath Bushman was born on Aug. 29, 1923, in Ceylon, Minn., the daughter of William and Ursula (Conrad) Abel. As a young girl, Dorothy was baptized and later confirmed at St. John’s United Church in Ceylon, Minn. She received her education attending District 15 country school.
On Sept. 2, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Robert Plath at St. Johns United Church. The couple was blessed with two children, Robert and Rodney. In Dec. 1965, the family moved to Fairmont where Dorothy and Harold owned and operated Westside Mobile Manor together until Harold’s passing on June 1, 1972. Dorothy was blessed to find love again when she met and later married Richard Bushman on Aug. 26, 1985, and the couple blended their family together.
Dorothy continued as owner and operator of Westside Mobile Manor until 2017 in addition to working at Armour and Conagra Foods for a number of years. She was never one to let the grass grow beneath her feet. She loved warm summer days spent at the golf course sharing laughs with friends. Dorothy loved the outdoors and eagerly awaited opportunities to be at the lake trying to catch the next “big one” or testing her aim while hunting for pheasants. She had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing cards and trying her luck at the casino. Her quiet time was spent working on puzzles, reading, working on word searches, and crocheting. Family was important to Dorothy and she treasured spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren with trips to Jake’s Pizza.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Darren (Susan) Plath, Stephanie (Tim) Strenge, Jody (Mark) Schmidt, Wendy Plath, and Jason (Sarah) Plath; great-grandchildren, Tyler Schmidt, Lindsey Schmidt, Courtney Detert, Sarah McFall Boegeman, Alex Detert, Caitlin Swartz, Lauren Plath, Taylor Plath, Kelsey Plath, and Addyson Plath; great-great-grandchildren, Augusta Swartz, Derek McFall Boegeman, Callie McFall Boegeman, and Lainey Swartz; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ursula Abel; husband, Harold Plath; husband, Richard Bushman; and two sons, Robert Plath and Rodney Plath. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net.
