FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Karen A. Cox, 81, of Fairmont, Minn., will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont with inurnment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Karen passed away on Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2025, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Karen Ann (Parker) Cox was born on Oct. 29, 1943, in Fairmont, Minn. She was the daughter of Albert and Esther (Yahnke) Parker. She attended Fairmont Public Schools and later graduated from Fairmont High School in 1961. Karen furthered her education at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn.
On Oct. 9, 1965, Karen was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Cox in Fairmont. Together, the couple would make their home in Fairmont and later in Brandon, S.D., and were blessed with four daughters, Robin, Jennifer, Malissa, and Amy. Karen worked at various locations including JC Penney and Shopko as well as Luverne Truck Equipment until her retirement in April of 2009.
Karen was an active member of her church. She was a song leader and soloist as well as singing with the Community Choir. During her free time, she enjoyed reading and traveling with Jerry.
Left to cherish her memory include her children, Robin (Chris) Cometa, of Villa Rica, Ga., Jennifer (Rick) Behne of Sherburn, Minn., Malissa (Mark) Anderson of Cylinder, Iowa, and Amy (Jeremy) Anderson of Brandon, S.D.; grandchildren, Cory Iverson, Dustin Frank, Nicole (Lance) Brolsma, Tyler Anderson, Mitchell (Ellie) Anderson, Jacob Johnson, Alex Johnson, Joe Anderson, and Ashely (Kellen) Fausch; great grandchildren, Everett Brolsma, Autumn Anderson, Lena Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, Brixton Anderson, Rileigh Anderson, and Natalie Fausch; sister, Marlene Peterson; brother, Robert Parker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norm Abel, Tim Conrady, John Mundy, Jim Cox, Jean (Terry) Maakestad, and Jane (John) Thate; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Albert and Esther Parker, Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Cox; siblings, Lee Parker, Don Parker, Clarice Schaller, and Mary Ellen Mathwig; parents-in-law, Roy and Viola Cox; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patsy Parker, Butch Schaller, Don Keith, Robert Peterson, Roger Mathwig, Sue Abel, Lois Cox, Mary Conrady, and Connie Mundy; and nieces and nephews, Travis Conrady, Josh Conrady, Benjamin Thate, Randy Keith, and Janell Klatt.
Memorials are preferred to the Martin County Humane Society, UHD Hospice, or to the St. John Vianney Endowment Fund.
