Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin, Minn. Bernice passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bernice Louise (Lampert) Sandberg was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Onamia, Minn., the daughter of Lloyd L. and Evelyn E. (Orr) Lampert. As a young girl, Bernice moved with her family to Little Falls, Minn., and Onamia, Minn., before moving to St. James, Minn. as a teenager.

While waitressing at Swans Café in St. James, Bernice met LeRoy Sandberg. Soon after, LeRoy was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for two years. On Nov. 5, 1954, Bernice and LeRoy were united in marriage in St. James, Minn. The couple made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with three children, Jimetta, Allan, and Doris. After the kids were grown and left the house, LeRoy persuaded Bernice to move out to the country where they bought an old farmhouse and fixed it up to what it is today.

Bernice took great pride in caring for her home, always making sure things were neat and tidy, and found great joy in taking care of her children. In their youth, Bernice mastered the skill of sewing and made clothing for the kids while they were young. She had a silly and comical sense of humor that brought a smile to the faces of those around her. Bernice and LeRoy had a special bond and partnership. They enjoyed quiet nights visiting and celebrated over 70 years of marriage together. Bernice was a very determined person and had a desire to keep learning even in her later years. Her faith was an important part of her life and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for many years where she served on the alter guild and in the circle group.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, LeRoy Sandberg; children, Jimetta Sabin and her husband, Jim of Blue Earth, Minn., and Doris Davison of Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren, Dellona-Marie Guenther, Dustin McMahon, Desirae McMahon, Solomon Davison, Christopher Sandberg, and Crystal Sandberg; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Evelyn Lampert; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Lilly Sandberg; and son, Allan L. Sandberg.
