Sean passed away unexpectedly at his home in Winona on Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, 2025. Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sean Brian Donnelly was born on May 17, 1982, in Ft. Lauderdale, Flor. He was the son of Scott and Patricia (Decker) Donnelly. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 2001.

On Oct. 6, 2018, Sean was united in marriage to the love of his life, April Hennessy in Winona, Minn. He was proud to have his son, Will, by his side in a very special ceremony officiated by Sean’s Uncle, Gregg Donnelly. Family was incredibly important to Sean and he loved spending time seeking out their next adventure, whether that be taking a fall day’s drive north up Highway 61 to Red Wing. They’d cross over to Wis. where they would enjoy the fall colors, some fresh ice cream at Ellsworth Creamery, and continue toward Winona on the Wis. side of the Mississippi River. They’d also go camping together. A favorite destination was his best friend, Jeffrey’s home in Rice, Minn., where many games of dirty clubs, bags, and Kubb had been played along with Sean’s bonus family, the Solarz family. “Sauger Sean” was always happy being on a lake on a boat or fishing, as well as talking football with his mother-in-law, Linda, or taking a drive to check out the local fishing spots, new construction, or the crop status.

Sean was a man who always showed up for those he loved. He truly enjoyed supporting friends and family, specifically Fairmont Cardinals Football, Goodview Sandlot Baseball, WinStars Velocity Softball, Minn. Attack Volleyball, and St. Clair Youth Volleyball. He was a man of many talents, having worked at Biofuel, as a welder at Tafco, and most recently was a proud member of the Oz Lifting family in Winona. Above all else, Sean’s favorite thing in the world was being a dad. He and Will enjoyed four-wheeling with Jeffrey and long drives to Lake of the Woods. He was incredibly proud of Will for the kind, brave, mature young man that he is becoming.

Sean was an incredibly kind, gentle soul who would meet each and every person that he met with that contagious smile and loving eyes.

Sean’s brother, Nick, cherishes many memories of the time they spent together. Sean was a lifelong racing fan whether it was dirt track racing or NASCAR. Sean took Nick when he would drive the Militello pace truck along with cheering for Oliver. The two of them, along with Cousin Mat, would take frequent trips to St. John’s where they’d visit Max and Gladys Decker’s bar, “Caps Place.” The trio would pick up a frosty at Wendy’s, play with “Playmobiles” since Legos weren’t available, or swim in the ocean with friends, “Nacho” and “Tonto.”
