Leone Lokkesmoe
APPLE VALLEY — Leone Lokkesmoe, 95, passed away to her heavenly home on Jan. 3 at the Orchard Path Senior Living Center in Apple Valley. Leone was born on Sept. 7, 1929, in Trimont, Minn. She attended a one-room schoolhouse for her primary years and graduated from Trimont High School in 1947. Leone worked at the Trimont Bank for several years as a teller and bookkeeper, and then at the First National Bank in Fairmont, where she met her future husband, Knute. They were married on Jan. 8, 1955. They moved to Owatonna in 1958, and to Stillwater in 1965. Leone raised four boys and later in life worked as a Nursing Assistant at Lakeview Memorial Hospital from 1971 to 1986. She and Knute moved back to Fairmont, Minn. in 1987 after they both retired.
Leone put her full hope in Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord. Leone and Knute took their family to Bible Camp in the Black Hills of S. Dak. They had family devotions regularly and impressed upon their children the rich truths found in the Bible. Leone also took the family to the Billy Graham Crusades, which impacted the whole family. She was an active member of several Lutheran churches throughout her life. She attended many Bible studies, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, knit prayer shawls, and made many quilts for others in need.
Leone loved to travel. She visited Mexico, Calif., and Colo. as a young woman. Later she was able to travel to Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and several other European countries. One of her favorite trips was an annual family vacation to Leech Lake in northern Minn. The whole family had fun swimming, fishing, skiing, golfing, playing cards and croquet, and relaxing in the outdoors.
She is survived by four sons: Kevin of Cumming, Georgia, Keith (Alane) of Savage, Minn., Dale (Linda) of Lakeville, Minn., and Darren (Kristin) of Eau Claire, Wis.; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister, Marian Johnson, of Plymouth, Minn.; a brother, Carl Lowell Ek, of Edina, Minn.; brother in law Albert Armbrust, of Ormsby, Minn.; sister in law Siv Ek of Thunder Bay, Canada, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Selma Ek; two brothers Robert and Leland Ek; two sisters Lucille Olson and Muriel Armbrust; her daughter in law Maureen Lokkesmoe; and her husband of 41 years, Knute Lokkesmoe.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13 in the Chapel at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Lakeville, Minn. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Lunch after. All are invited. Private burial with family on Jan. 14 in Trimont, Minn.
