Marjorie Marie (Bollig) Schwaegerl, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Altermatt) Bollig, was born on March 6, 1929, in Comfrey, Minn. She grew up on the family farm 1.5 miles west of Comfrey and was the second of four children. Marjorie attended grades 1 to 8 at St. Paul’s Catholic School, then Comfrey High School graduating in 1947. She enrolled at Mankato State Teacher’s College where she earned a teaching degree in 1949 and began teaching grades 3 and 4 at the Catholic school in Morgan.

During college, Marjorie began dating Leander Schwaegerl and on Nov. 4, 1950, they were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey. After marriage, they resided in Comfrey, assisting Leander in operating the hardware store. She also began her most cherished roles in life, wife, and mom, as she and Leander were blessed with four children. Family meant everything to Marjorie, and she paused her teaching career while raising their children. She was a great mom who loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school events as well as offering a listening ear and solid advice when needed. When her children were raised, Marjorie returned to teaching and dedicated 24 years to students who were fortunate to experience her warm, gentle, and encouraging demeanor.

Her faith was important to her. Throughout her life, Marjorie was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey. She loved sewing and quilting so much that the children’s and grandchildren’s homes were overflowing with beautiful quilts and wall hangings. Marjorie had a sharp eye for colors and quilting knowledge which she happily shared with others.

Marjorie was a loyal follower of the Minn. Twins, adjusting her schedule to watch or listen to the games. She also followed the Vikings and Timberwolves as well as the Minn. High School State Basketball and Football tournaments. Marjorie enjoyed reading, gardening, canning as well as traveling and was able to go to Flor., Ariz., Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Europe and visit her sisters in Seattle, Wash., and Monterey, Calif. on several occasions.

Her warm smile and down-to-earth personality made others feel better by being in her presence. She viewed life in a thoughtful, rational fashion and seemed to take everything in stride with a calm demeanor. The teasing by her family was taken with quiet satisfaction and pleasure. Her influence is felt every day by those closest to her and will be dearly missed.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Cheri (Scott) Drever of Fairmont, Minn., Greg (Robin) Schwaegerl of Montevideo, Minn., Jeff Schwaegerl (significant other Leanne Kim) of Golden Valley, Minn., and Steve (Debbie) Schwaegerl of New London, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Verle (Betty) Bollig of Willmar, Minn.; sister, Leola Hickman of Calif.; and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander Schwaegerl, and sister, Cleone Monson.
