Marsha Lynn (Meyer) Atzenhoefer was born on Aug. 11, 1944, in Welcome, Minn., the daughter of Melvin and Marian (Baumhoefner) Meyer. Just 11 days after her birth, Marsha was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, rural Welcome, Minn., and confirmed at the same church on March 30, 1958. Marsha grew up in Welcome and received her education attending Welcome Public School.
On April 7, 1961, Marsha was united in marriage to Donald John Atzenhoefer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont, Minn. Together, the couple lived in Trimont for a short time before making the move to Fairmont where they raised their two children, Barb and Bob.
Marsha worked for many years for the State of Minnesota as a Driver’s License Examiner where she administered the written test and eye test. Following her retirement, she then began working at JC Penny’s as a sales associate in the jewelry department.
In her spare time, Marsha loved being at home and working in the sun while tending to her flowers and garden. She loved her four-legged friends and had many pets through the years. Marsha had a wonderful sense of humor and was always willing to participate/provoke heartfelt pranks and dirty talk. She was incredibly proud of her family and their accomplishments, which was very evident when speaking with her. Faith was an important part of Marsha’s life and was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She served her church and Lord by teaching Sunday School with her husband, Don, serving on the alter guild, singing in the church choir, and Marsha especially enjoyed helping with the chapel service at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. Marsha’s other favorite activity on Sunday was cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Donald Atzenhoefer; children, Barb Atzenhoefer and Bob (Teresa) Atzenhoefer; grandchildren, Tamar Atzenhoefer, Andrea (Adrian Peterson) Niss, Alyssa (Shane Bultman) Niss, and Ashten (Tyler) Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Vincenzo, Sydnee, Jamisen, Kinlee, Brinlee, Brylee, Logan, Hayden, Easton, Harper, Charley, and Blake; two sisters, Deb Anderson and Carla Charlton; two brothers-in-law, Erwin (Rosie) Atzenhoefer and Ken (Bobbie) Atzenhoefer; sister-in-law, Karen (Clem) Manders; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Marian Meyer; grandparents, William and Sophie Meyer; brother, Steve Meyer, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willard and Dora Atzenhoefer; and her four-legged friends, Charlie, Chase, Bentley, Cookie, and Thunder.
The family requests memorials be made in Marsha’s name to Martin County Humane Society-Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter in Fairmont and the American Cancer Society.
