Marianne Hagen was born on Sept. 14, 1945, in Stolp, Pommern Germany, the daughter of Eugen and Zoe (Sedlik) Kuzminski. Marianne received her education in Germany attending school in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Oberammergau, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
During a chance meeting, Marianne met Dennis Hagen while he was serving in the United States Military and stationed in Germany. Marianne and Dennis were soon engaged and the couple returned to the United States where they were married on May 10, 1964, in Ceylon, Minn.
Marianne and Dennis made their home on a farm near Ceylon before moving to a farm near Dunnell, Minn., where they resided until 2008 when the couple moved to Fairmont. They were blessed with the births of four children, Jeffrey, Timothy, Angela, and Larissa.
Marianne was not one to shy away from any type of work that needed to be done. Whether helping with jobs around the farm or working hard as a “domestic engineer”, Marianne took great pride in a hard day’s work. Through the years, Marianne also worked at the Hwy 4 Store in Dunnell, Pizza Hut in Fairmont, Edmans Law Office, Aerospace in both Fairmont and Blue Earth, and Enderson’s Clothing in Fairmont before retiring in 2012.
Faith was an important part of Marianne’s life and she took great interest in knowing her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon where she served as a Sunday School teacher for both youth and adult classes and was also the Sunday School Superintendent. Marianne served on the Watonwan River Synod Board, Global Mission Board, and the Church and Society Board. Following the couple’s move to Fairmont, Marianne became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in Charity Club, Anna Circle, Board of Parish Ministry, LWML, and a representative of the Members at Large Board. Marianne also served her community as a member of the Citizens Advisory Board at Human Services.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, painting, needlework, and working with ceramics. She loved the outdoors and adventure and could be found enjoying a peaceful walk and hiking a beautiful trail, a warm summer day at the golf course, or a crisp snowy winter day cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. Marianne had a competitive spirit and enjoyed bowling with family and friends. She also found joy in visiting museums and zoos as well as going antiquing with Dennis.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dennis Hagen; children, Jeffrey (Karis) Hagen, Timothy (Rachel) Hagen, Angela (Travis) Leiding, and Larissa Hagen; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Helga Stevenson; one niece; one nephew; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, Eugen and Zoe Kuzminski; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Arline Hagen.
The family requests memorials be given in Marianne’s name to the Lutz Cancer Center in Fairmont, Minn., and UHD Hospice Program.
