James ‘Jim’ J. Welchlin
BLUE EARTH — Mass of Christian Burial for James “Jim” J. Welchlin, age 87, of Blue Earth, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Minn., with interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Oct. 1 at the church.
James passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at his home in rural Blue Earth. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
James John Welchlin was born March 4, 1937, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Erhard R. and Julia V. (Sullivan) Welchlin. He attended St. Paul’s Convent School before later graduating from Fairmont High School in 1955. Jim furthered his education at Mankato State College and graduated in 1959.
After graduating from college, James was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 1, 1960. He served in administration and achieved the rank of SP4(T). Jim served in Korea until earning his honorable discharge on March 26, 1962.
Jim worked as an Installment Loan Officer at First National Bank in Fairmont until his retirement on Oct. 4, 1990. James was a long-time member of Martin County Conservation Club where he served as the president for 27 years. He was also a member of Pheasants Forever and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36. Along with dedicating much of his time to conservation and wildlife, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as tending to his garden.
Left to cherish his memory include his sister, Ann Marie DeGroot; niece, Julie DeGroot; other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Erhard and Julia Welchlin, Jim was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Welchlin; and brother-in-law, Chris DeGroot. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
