Charles ‘Chuck’ Hamsmith
FAIRMONT — As per his wishes, a memorial service for Charles “Chuck” Hamsmith, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date with burial and military honors to be held in Lakeside Cemetery.
Chuck passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Chuck Hamsmith was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Fairmont, Minn., to Cecil (Waterbury) and Alfred Hamsmith. He was the middle child of three brothers. He attended and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1957. Chuck then joined the U.S. Army in 1958. He returned home to Fairmont in 1969 and became a police officer until 1977. He then went to Scott County where he worked as a deputy for two years before reenlisting in the U.S. Army where he served his country until his retirement in August of 1993.
Chuck was united in marriage to his wife and soulmate, Dale, in 1986 at Grace Lutheran Church. This past July, the couple celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dale Hamsmith; children, Brian Hamsmith, Rhonda McCulley, Michelle (Wayne) Duncan, Ronda (Ken) McClain, Jill (Terry) Krueger and Traci (Terry) Schultz; grandchildren (in order of birth), Kristin (Jon), Matthew (Jade), Brittany (Brady), Trey (Katelin), Nathan, Blain, Kamron, Jordyn, Jacob, and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Khloe, Liam, Eleanor and Thea; fur baby, Toby; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his best friend and brother, Robert “Bobby” Wood; granddaughter, Kylie Renae; nephews, David Hamsmith and Larry Hamsmith; his grandparents; and extended family members. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
