Wayne Walter Hansen was born July 24, 1937, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Hans and Marian (Faber) Hansen. He attended Sherburn Public School where he graduated from Sherburn High School with the class of 1955. As a young boy, Wayne would help his father at the appliance store that Hans owned and operated. Wayne developed a passion for all things mechanical and an interest in how the items we use each day work. Wayne took that passion as he furthered his education at the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He would go on to work as a mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, consultant and even developed his own ideas with companies such as Sunstrand, Onan and Homelite.
In addition to his many projects that he worked on and invented, Wayne loved spending time outdoors. He looked forward to days spent on the lake trying his luck at landing the next trophy fish or spending the day boating with family and friends. With the change of the seasons, Wayne treasured quiet and crisp mornings hunting or riding his ATV and when the snow would fly, you could find him out on the area trails and ditches snowmobiling. Wayne farmed for many years and his understanding of the land came in handy as he worked on his lawn at home and various landscaping projects. Wayne treasured the many friendships he had, especially his long-time friendship with Mary Schmidtke. Together the couple along with other friends would travel to area dances where they square danced to the music of Steve Lang.
Left to cherish his memory is his life partner, Mary Schmidtke; children, Lance, Bret, Sheila, Robert, Gregory and Kathy; grandchildren, Larissa, Hunter, Elizabeth and Keegan; brother, Thomas Hansen; niece, Karley; nephews, Dutch, Ian, Jack, Jess and Ronnell; as well as many other extended family and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Marian Hansen; and a brother, Allen Hansen. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
