Merton Edwin Carl Miller
FAIRMONT — Funeral services for Merton Edwin Carl Miller, age 98, of Roseville, Minn., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Military honors will be provided immediately following the service at the church by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Those wishing to view the service may do so on the church website at: www.splfairmont.org. Merton passed away Friday, July 21, 2023, at M Health Fairview Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minn. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont or the Anna Keck Scholarship Fund c/o St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Merton Edwin Carl Miller was born June 29, 1925 to Harry and Lydia (Luedtke) Miller. He attended public and parochial schools through the eighth grade and then graduated from Fairmont High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. After his honorable discharge in March of 1946, he returned to Fairmont. He worked for a short time at the Fairmont Railway Motors but was later hired at the Martin County Highway Department where he retired in 1987 after 37 years of employment.
In 1948 he married Theo Hines and they remained in Fairmont for sixty-six years. They had three sons: Gary and Barbara (Keefe) from Chanhassen, Roger and Lynn (Morris) from Minnetonka and Cory and Diane (Burley) from Woodbury. Merton has six grandchildren and six great-granddaughters.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and family. He was a loving and devoted husband and a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Merton is survived by his wife, Theo; four sisters: Pauline Mau of Fairmont, Marlene Jaderlund of Yakima, Wash., Sharon Todd of Victoria, Texas and Norita (Rita) Ryan of Danbury, Wis.; all children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
