Truman library asks for food donations

TRUMAN — The GIFT kids at Trinity are raising money to help with swimming pool expenses. They encourage everyone, individuals and businesses, to help them. The deadline has been extended to May 7 due to weather cancellations and spring break, which prohibited them from meeting. Contributions can be dropped off at City Hall or the school office. Everyone is welcome to stop at Trinity with a donation from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on May 7.

Just a reminder that your sump pump hose should be routed to your lawn or the storm sewer.

Truman will be having a community garden this summer. The raised plots are located behind the school. If you are interested in raising your vegetables and would like to reserve one or more spaces, please contact Pat Jones at (507) 236-4433. The produce you raise will be for your use, or if you want to sell your produce at the farmers’ market, that would also be welcome. We are offering you free seed for your raised garden plot. If you would like assistance, we also have help available from our local county extension office. This might make a good project for young people, a family, or a 4-H project. For a second year, Martin County libraries will offer a seed library to assist those who want to plant. Anyone with a library card can pick five seed packs, with a variety of flowers and vegetables available. While they are ‘checked out’, nothing needs to be returned to the library; its branches in Sherburn, Trimont, and Truman are also offering the program. Seeds will be available until they run out. For more information, visit https://www.martincountylibrary.org/.

Arbor Day is Friday, April 25. It’s important as it gives people the knowledge to plant trees, protect trees, and keep trees for future generations. We all need to be good stewards of the Earth.

Sunday will be the last service that Pastor Carol will be preaching at Trinity Lutheran Church. A farewell supper for Pastor Carol will be served at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the church. Everyone is invited to give Pastor Carol well wishes and a final goodbye.

The public is invited to bring canned and non-perishable food donations to the library from now until May 12. These donations will be delivered to our local food shelf. Donate your goods at the Truman Library. All donors will be entered into a prize drawing.

Truman seeks a volunteer willing to work on the 2025 farmer’s market. The group needs a coordinator and creative ideas to help make an even more successful 2025 season. Contact any Truman Active Living member or Pat Jones at (507) 236-4433. Please consider this opportunity.

If any Truman Veteran has passed within the last year and the family would like to have their name listed on our Memorial Day roll call, please contact Pat at (507) 236-4433. A Memorial Day program will be at 10 a.m. on May 26 at the Truman Elementary School auditorium. A picnic lunch will be hosted by the Truman Pool. Commission following the Memorial Day program at the community building.

The Bravo Zulu House has joined forces with Tee It Up for the Troops. They are excited to announce their first annual golf and pickleball fundraising event to benefit Tee It Up for the Troops and Bravo Zulu House. This two-day event will be held at the beautiful Owatonna Country Club on Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day of golf or pickleball, network with fellow supporters, and raise critical funds for two important organizations that support our veterans. For more information or to hear about sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, please contact Brian Gora at (952) 646-2490 or Tim Murray at (507) 400-1973.

If you have a local event or news-worthy item you would like me to mention at no charge, text, call, or send a copy of your poster to me at (507) 236-9487. I will need this no later than Monday, for the Thursday edition of the Sentinel. This is greatly appreciated by those who do not have Facebook. Thank you.

Starting at $2.99/week.
