Council talks chicken ordinance
WELCOME — The Welcome City Council met on Tuesday, April 1.
Before the regular meeting, a public meeting was held to discuss the ordinance about raising chickens in the city limits. Several questions and comments were posed to the council about the ordinance. One resident wondered about the police inspecting, and who would do that and what they would do about her dogs. The council and the Chief of Police answered the questions. The police would be in uniform and announce themselves so the dogs or the residents would not get anxious. The size of the coop and where on the lot the coop would be placed were answered in the copy of the ordinance passed out at the meeting.
The regular meeting began and the ordinance passed with one ‘nay’ vote.
The ballfield expenses, requested by Brooks Rohman at the last meeting, were printed out. The total expense came to $26,034 to $30,034, depending on the water usage. The itemized list was field manager salary, $5,172+; mowing by city employee, $5,000+; restroom cleaning, $1,300+; supplies, $2,000+; insurance, $2,000+; electricity, $300+; and the average water usage at the rate $14 would be anywhere between $10,000 and $14,000.
In other business:
— A Cemetery Memorial from the Robert and Barbara Clark family was approved.
— The bathroom remodeling at the City Hall is done. The council said the remodeling looked nice and thanked City Works Employee Dave Bach.
— Bolton and Menk Engineer Travis Winter reported on the street project. The bidding discussion will happen at the next meeting. He asked about the acquisition of the lots for the pond planned for the area. The pond will not be full of water all the time.
— The council approved the hydrant flushing next week and the removal of flowers on the cemetery but not the pots. Eric Anderson will plant some flowers in town. Jon Auringer mentioned a DARE graduation in May.
— The meeting went into a closed session.
The next meeting of the Welcome City Council will be at 6 p.m. on April 15 at City Hall.
