Fairmont Speech hosts Fairmont Finale tournament

FAIRMONT — Thirty-one members of the Fairmont Speech Team competed at the Fairmont Finale Speech Tournament on Saturday, March 22, at Fairmont High School in Fairmont.

Varsity Champions: Senior Dominick Lund-May in Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. Senior Grace Simpson in Dramatic Interpretation, Senior Oliver Thedens in Extemporaneous Reading and Program of Oral Interpretation, Junior Bel Lutterman in Original Oratory, and Sophomore Leon Yang in Humorous Interpretation.

Varsity Second Place: Seniors Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens in Duo Interpretation, Senior Grace Simpson in Storytelling, Junior Bel Lutterman in Impromptu Speaking, and Sophomore Allie Streit in the Program of Oral Interpretation.

Varsity Third Place: Junior Bel Lutterman in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Varsity Fourth Place: Senior Alayna Haefner in Original Oratory, Senior Isaac Thomas in Humorous Interpretation, and Sophomore Leon Yang in Impromptu Speaking.

Varsity Fifth Place: Senior Isaac Thomas in Storytelling, Sophomore Gabbie Thoeny in Creative Expression, and Sophomore Norah Heille in Great Speeches.

Next-In Varsity Third Place: Freshman Evan Reyelts.

Novice Second Place: Seventh Grader Gwen Edman in Storytelling.

Novice Third Place: Freshman Bella Coan in Informative Speaking, Freshman Jazzleene Lopez in Original Oratory, and Eighth Grader Sophia Streit in Storytelling.

Novice Fourth Place: Seventh Grader Addie Lintelman in Original Oratory.

Novice Fifth Place: Eighth Grader Reyna Juhl in Prose and Seventh Grader Annabelle Watson in Original Oratory.

Novice Sixth Place: Sophomore Molly Johnson in Poetry, Seventh Grader Isabelle Soelter in Extemporaneous Reading, and Seventh Grader Elin Scheppmann in Informative Speaking.

The Fairmont Speech Team competes at the Jordan “Last Chance” Speech Tournament on Saturday, April 5 at Jordan High School. The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Section 2A Speech Tournament will be on Friday, April 11 at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (JWP) High School.

The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
