Lenten services to begin soon
WELCOME — Wow. March 1 is tomorrow. Signs of Spring this week are rain and warmer temperatures instead of snow.
The Sherburn Lions Club will have its annual Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at the Martin County West High School in Sherburn. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and beverages. A free-will donation is encouraged. Proceeds will fund the Holiday Festival Parade. The Sherburn Lions Club will also be collecting old glasses and hearing aid donations.
The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on March 4 at City Hall. Public comments and questions are accepted at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall before the meeting at (507) 728-8740.
Ash Wednesday is March 5, which is the beginning of the Lenten Season. Area churches are planning special Wednesday evening services during Lent. The Circle of Faith Parishes will meet at First Lutheran Church in Trimont at 7 p.m. on March 5. All the other Lenten Midweek services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, and there will be a light supper at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. each of those Wednesdays. St. Paul’s Community Church will have an Ash Wednesday service after a light supper at 5:30 p.m. on March 5. During Lent, they will have Bible Study sessions at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Area residents are welcome to join these churches’ events.
The Circle of Faith Parishes will change to its March schedule. Sunday services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome and 9 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont during March.
Condolences to the family of Harold Jacob from Trimont, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends.
The Burn Site in Welcome is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 5. Please bring only wood that is six inches in diameter or less. The Burn Site is also scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to noon on March 8. This is for Welcome residents only.
Cribbage Tournaments at the Welcome Legion Hall begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on March 8 and March 15. Any area Cribbage player is welcome to join the fun.
The Ceylon Fire Department will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon on March 9 in the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. The menu includes scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausage, ham, and beverages. A free-will donation is encouraged for the Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance group will meet at 6 p.m. on March 9 at the Shaw Home in Welcome (804 West 1st Street). Dancers and watchers are welcome to join the fun.
