MCW closed for President’s Day

WELCOME — Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope you have someone near you who loves you. If not, love someone who is near you.

The Cribbage Tournament begins with registration at 1:15 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 15, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Any Cribbage Players are welcome to join the fun. They play on the second and third Saturdays until spring.

There will be a Pancake Brunch for the Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association from 9 a.m. to Noon on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the banquet room in the back of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. The menu includes French toast, pancakes, sausage, ham, and scrambled eggs. The cost is a free-will donation.

There’s no school at Martin County West on Monday, Feb. 17 since it is President’s Day holiday. There will be no mail and some businesses may be closed.

A Ruby’s Pantry Grocery Distribution will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the Regional Worship Center’s parking lot in Sherburn, just south of Interstate 90. $25 will buy a trunk full of groceries. There are no income or residential guidelines. Check their Facebook post for a partial list of things on the distribution list and further information.

The Welcome City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at City Hall. All members are encouraged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of the meeting. Those wishing to be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 728-8740 or in person.

Condolences to the families of Cecil “Butch” Buckmeier, Beverly Anthony and Henry Ubbens from the Trimont area. They will be missed by family and friends.

Welcome High School All-Class Reunion will be on July 26 at the Fox Lake Event Center.
