St. John’s to aid Kids Against Hunger

SHERBURN — A Lunch-N-Learn program is at 11 a.m. today at the Sherburn Senior Center near the City Hall. The event is followed by a light lunch. These programs are free to Martin County Senior Citizens. Crest appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.

A Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn Legion Hall. The menu includes a burger, salad and beans for only $10. Sounds yummy. The Sherburn Legion will have their monthly Steak Fry Night from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. The menu includes your choice of rib eye, shrimp, smoked pork chops, salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast for only $20.

Condolences to the families of Karen (Burmeister) Sorteberg and Judy Hector who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.

St. John’s Lutheran Church has assembled a team to help with the Kids Against Hunger Pack Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the National Guard Armory in Fairmont.

The Regional Worship Center will have a Spaghetti Fundraiser after their 10 a.m. service on Sunday with proceeds going to Men’s Ministry at the Church.

The Sherburn Theatre will show “Dogman” this weekend. The showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $5 and there is a concession stand available. Buy locally.

The Red Cross Blood Drives will be on Feb. 10 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Feb. 11 and 12 at the Best Western Hotel in Fairmont, on Feb. 21 at the American Legion in Fairmont, on Feb. 24 at the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and on Feb. 25 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed now so give it if you are able.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic is scheduled to be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 10 and Feb. 12. The van is parked near the City Hall. Call the appointment number, (507) 238-8500, and mention Sherburn Clinic.

The Martin County West students and athletes are busy this week. The gymnastics team will meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Pipestone. The boy’s basketball team will compete with Blue Earth Area at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 in Sherburn. The boy’s hockey team will meet at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Waseca. The girl’s hockey team will have a sectional playoff at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 with location to be determined. The FFA team will attend the Ag Bowl on Feb. 7 at SMSU in Marshall. The girl’s basketball team will compete with Loyola Catholic School at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Trimont Elementary School. The boy’s basketball team will compete with Loyola Catholic School at 5 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Trimont Elementary School. The girl’s hockey team will have a playoff game on Feb. 10 with time and location to be determined. The boy’s hockey team will travel to Minnesota River at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10. The girl’s basketball team will compete with Maple River at 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Mapleton. A girl’s hockey team Sectional Playoff will be at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at Gustavus College. The MCW School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Sherburn Elementary Board Room. President’s Day is Feb. 17. There will be no school at MCW, no mail service, and select businesses may be closed.
