Fire Dept. fundraisers planned
CEYLON — A Cribbage Tournament will begin at 1:15 p.m. with registration today at the Legion Hall in Welcome. All registration is paid back fully as prizes. All cribbage players are welcome. They play the second and third Saturdays until spring.
The Lake Belt Bar and Grill will host Horse Races and Meat Raffles at 2 p.m. today.
The Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have evening services tonight at 5:30 p.m. They have services on the first and third Saturdays and hold a Bible Class at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. Residents are welcome to join them.
Condolences to the families of Dorothy Peterson (Russell), Dunnell resident Mary Mathwig, and Ardella (Simmering) Nagel, a former Ceylon resident. They will be missed by family and friends.
Red Cross Blood Drives will be in Martin County during February. A drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The Best Western Hotel will have a drive on Feb. 11 and 12 in Fairmont. The American Legion will have a drive on Feb. 21 in Fairmont. A blood drive will be on Feb. 25 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. There will be a drive on Feb. 24 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Give blood if you are able. There is an urgent need for blood at this time, and each unit of blood may save up to three lives. The Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association would like to thank all those who came to their pancake brunch on Jan.12 and all the firefighters who helped make the brunch. The donations were appreciated very much. Future pancake fundraisers will be on Feb. 16 and Mar. 9 to help purchase equipment. Circle the dates and plan to attend.
Future events include the Ceylon Area Historical Society annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 at the Portage Bank in Ceylon. All members are encouraged to attend. A Ceylon All School Reunion is planned for June 28. That reminds me that 2025 is the 125th anniversary of the founding of the City of Ceylon. Any events planned?
The Sherburn Theatre will not have a movie this weekend but is planning to show “A Complete Unknown” on Jan. 24 and 26 and the movie “Dog Man” on the weekend of Jan. 31. Tickets are $5. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays.
