The Martin County West Schools are back in session beginning today, Jan. 2. The athletes were busy during the winter break and will be busy in the coming days. The boy’s hockey team will compete with Windom at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2 at the Fairmont Hockey Arena on the Martin County Fairgrounds. The wrestling team will compete with Fairmont’s team at 5 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Fairmont. The girl’s basketball team will compete with Maple River at 5:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Trimont. The girl’s hockey team will compete with Princeton at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Fairmont Hockey Arena. The boy’s hockey team will compete with Redwood Valley at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Redwood Valley. The gymnastics will attend an invitational in Fairmont at 10 a.m. on Jan. 4 at LiveFit in Fairmont. The boy’s basketball team will compete with St. James at 7 p.m. on Jan. 6 in Sherburn. The girl’s basketball team will compete with Mountain Lake at 7 p.m. on Jan. 6 at Comfrey. The boy’s hockey team will compete with Luverne at 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 at Blue Mound Arena. The girl’s hockey team will compete with Luverne at 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Fairmont Hockey Arena. The Band and Choir Concert will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Martin County West school gymnasium.
The Sherburn City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Jan. 6 at City Hall. Public comments and questions can be made at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 764-4491.
St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Senior High School Youth Group will be selling pastries from Jan. 12 to Feb. 2. Contact any youth group member or the church. The St. John’s Church will gather a team to pack food, aiding the Kids Against Hunger organization for the event on Feb. 8.
Those wishing to be elected to township offices should hand in an Affidavit of Candidacy by Jan. 14 to their township clerk.
The free Christmas tree recycling for Martin County is ongoing until Jan. 10. The Sherburn and Fairmont drop sites are at the Sherburn Nursery and Margaret Street at the City Street Shop respectively. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both sites. Please bring only real trees. Wreaths, roping, artificial trees, ornaments, and similar items are prohibited. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will host two Prayer Convocations at 5 p.m. on Jan. 5 and Jan. 19. They will regard the new President and transfer to his power.
