New Year’s Eve events planned

TRUMAN — Join Instructor Isaac Wallace as he instructs a one-day review and riding snowmobile performance course at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Five Lakes Cafeteria in the Fairmont Elementary School. Students must complete the online course: Official Minnesota Snowmobile Safety Course, located at snowmobilecourse.com (the fee for the course is $29.95). Once they complete the online course, students print out a “youth follow-up voucher” and bring a copy of their birth certificate. Students will not be allowed to participate in the classroom review and performance test unless they have completed the Online Snowmobile Safety Course. The parent or guardian must accompany the youth to sign the waiver. Each student must have proper attire: helmet, gloves, snow pants, jacket, and boots. A snowmobile will be available. Youth must be 11 years old by the date of the class attended. All residents of Minnesota born after Dec. 31, 1976, MUST have a snowmobile safety certificate to operate a snowmobile in Minnesota. This youth Snowmobile Safety class is sponsored by Minnesota DNR, Fairmont Community Education & Recreation, and the Blizzard Snowmobile Club. before attending class. Registration is required, can be done by contacting CER at (507) 235-3141, and closes on Dec. 29.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Truman will have lessons and carols service at 10 a.m. on Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve.

Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church Truman will have a 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve service with holy communion.

The Lewisville Legion Post will begin New Year’s Eve at 1 p.m. with the Leon Olson band.

Truman’s recycling day will be Thursday, Jan. 2 the changes due to the holiday. Please have the container curbside by 7 a.m. Remember, no wrapping paper is permitted.

Truman seeks a volunteer willing to work on the 2025 farmer’s market. The group needs a coordinator and creative ideas to help make an even more successful 2025 season. Contact any member of Truman’s active living committee, or Pat Jones at (507) 236-44,33.

Apply for a 2025 Minnesota corn scholarship, and or innovation grant. The application is open for both the 2025 Minnesota corn scholarship and the 2025 Minnesota corn innovative grant program. The scholarship program provides full-time college students with a $5,000 scholarship. The innovative grant program provides corn, farmers and students with grants to study on farm, nutrient management, soil, health, irrigation, disease, management, practices, and more. Martin County, Pork producers ambassador scholarship, open to high school seniors and college students to age 21. The scholarship is available for any student whose family is part of the pork industry in Martin County or is pursuing an ag-related field. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31, 2025. Truman Active Living has received permission from the Truman Public School District to use the raised gardens behind the school as a community garden for 2025.
