Area churches to hold special services
SHERBURN — A Red Cross blood drive will be today at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems building in Fairmont and on Dec. 20 at the American Legion in Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. Give the gift of life with a blood donation this holiday season. Each unit is capable of saving three lives. Blood is urgently needed now, give it if you can.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature ‘Mufasa’ (a film about the upbringing of The Lion King) as the movie this weekend, Dec. 20 to 22, and next weekend, Dec. 27 to 29. The show times are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $5.
The winners of the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest that was part of the Deck the Halls event on Dec. 7 and 8th sponsored by the Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club were: first place the quilt tree by the St. Luke’s Quilters, second place the books tree by the Sherburn Librarian, and third place the wooden spiral tree by Jeffrey Stephens of CEEDair Wood. Congratulations all the trees were very cleverly decorated. Thank you to the C&C club for the fun event.
Area Churches have scheduled special Christmas services: St. Luke’s Catholic Church will have a 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Service and members may attend 9 a.m. Services in Jackson or 6:30 p.m. Services in Lakefield. On Christmas Day, the service will be at 8:30 a.m. in Jackson. Members are reminded that the service times change in Jan. at St. Luke’s to Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. St. John’s Lutheran Church will have Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. (family service) and 9 p.m. (candlelight service). Their partner Church St. Paul’s in Wilbert will have a Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m. (candlelight service). On Sunday, Dec. 29, they will have New Year services at St. John’s in Sherburn at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Wilbert. The Regional Worship Center has scheduled a New Year’s Eve night at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. instead of their usual Wednesday night classes and supper. They will provide the pizza crust and sauce. The members should bring the pizza toppings they like. After the classes, there will be a pizza party bingo, and New Year’s Prayer at 11:45 p.m. On Jan. 5 and 19, they will have special prayers at 5 p.m. for the Country and the presidency’s transfer of power. Area residents are welcome to join any of these church’s events and services.
The free Christmas Tree Recycling will be offered from Dec. 26 to Jan. 10. The Sherburn drop-off site is Sherburn Nursery.
